Teaching & Learning Assistant (Junior School) at City Centre Campus
At St Georgeʼs, Teaching and Learning Assistants (TLAs) are highly valued and recognised as an integral part of any teaching and learning team. In the Early Years, the social and emotional aspect of their role is particularly strong and they are seen as key caretakers for the children in these years. This role is ultimately accountable to the Principal but takes guidance from Heads of school, class teachers, the City Centre Student Support Coordinator, and the Director of Student Support Services as appropriate to the area they are assigned to. Their help in a lesson provides not only the Class teacher, but also the pupils with the support, knowledge and understanding that ensure teaching and learning is of an optimum level; for this reason they will be involved in the planning sessions and, through negotiation with other members of the team, share their strengths and assist learning.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Support a designated child’s learning and behavioural needs in all areas of the curriculum
Maintain accurate pupil records eg (Seesaw, reading records, library usage etc)
Provide extra support to children with special needs or those who are EAL learners as directed by the Head of school, Class teacher or Director of Student Support Services
Contribute to the assessment of a designated child’s academic progress and social & emotional development
Assist with the preparation of the learning environment and resources to support learning under the direction of the teacher and Student Support Coordinator
Pastoral
Show an active interest in the personal circumstances of the children under your care, and Foster their personal and social development
Actively promote the social, moral and cultural ethos of the school community
Create an atmosphere of support by being aware of, and fully compliant with, all the school policies on pastoral care
Be familiar with all of the schoolʼs policies on Health and Safety and be proactive in ensuring the safety of all members of the school community at all times
Promote exemplary behaviour and a responsible attitude amongst all pupils at all times
Be aware of and act upon all policies regarding the safeguarding of children
Contribute to the extra curricular life of the school
Professional
Promote pride in the school among the pupil body through high standards of dress, behaviour and commitment
Ensure that all communication is acted upon appropriately and in a timely manner
Be responsible for all school resources, particularly those in your care, reporting damage or loss to the appropriate authority within the school
Carry out any reasonable professional request made by the Principal or Head of School

A good UK Honours Degree (or equivalent)

Conditional Offer of Appointment
Any offer to a successful candidate will be conditional upon the following:

Receipt of at least three satisfactory references (one of which should be from your current or most recent Principal, Head of School or line manager)
Verification of medical fitness (completion of a medical declaration)
Social media screening
