The King’s Teaching Internship is a new initiative which aims to provide students in the penultimate or final year of their undergraduate degree with the opportunity to gain paid, hands-on classroom experience within a school renowned for excellence in education.
The programme is particularly intended to encourage those who may not previously have considered teaching, including individuals from backgrounds that are currently under-represented in the profession. We are committed to nurturing a diverse and inclusive workforce. The King’s Teaching Internship is intended as one part of our commitment to achieving this.
Interns will have the opportunity to spend one week at King’s (15-19 June 2026), experiencing teaching, observing lessons, meeting staff and pupils, and seeing first-hand how the school works in partnership with neighbouring schools in service of the wider community. The programme is designed to give a realistic, thoughtful, and enjoyable introduction to the profession, including its intellectual, pastoral, co-curricular and community dimensions.
Interns will receive high-quality mentoring and structured support during their Internship, gaining experience and insight that will strengthen future applications to teacher training or education-related roles. For some, the Internship may open the door to further opportunities at King’s itself; for others, it provides a strong foundation for teaching or educational work in a wide range of schools and settings.
We are seeking interns who possess:
• Excellent subject knowledge in one of our curriculum areas*, including at least two years of university study in a related discipline, on track for a 2:1 degree classification or higher
• A genuine curiosity about exploring teaching as a profession
• A desire to inspire and support all pupils to flourish and reach their academic potential, and a commitment to excellent pastoral care and safeguarding for all pupils
• Skills, interests and hobbies in areas beyond the curriculum, which they would like to share with pupils
• Excellent communication skills and an ability to work well with others
• A commitment to personal and professional growth and development
*Curriculum areas at King’s include English, Mathematics, Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science), Classical Languages (Latin, Greek), Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish), Humanities (Economics, Geography, Government & Politics, History, Psychology, Theology & Philosophy) and creative subjects (Art, Drama, Design & Engineering, Music).
The gross salary to be paid for the week will be £663.45
