The Opportunity
Horizons College is an innovative and inclusive specialist provision for young people aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and/or complex needs. Having opened our brand new college at the Interface Industrial Estate in Royal Wootton Bassett September 2022; we here at Horizon’s College are excited to welcome new Learning Support Assistants to provide a safe, stimulating, learner-centred environment; equipping our learners to be independent by developing life and work skills ready for life after college and their transition to adulthood.

Your Role
The attached job description will detail your role in full. But at a glance, some of the key fields you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):
- Assist in the supervision of learners within and outside the learning setting, including in communal areas, work placements, other sites or on visits outside the college
- Provide simple medical aid as and when necessary and take all reasonable measures to ensure health and safety within and outside the college
- Provide care, attend to learner’s personal needs and undertake activities necessary to meet the physical, emotional and educational requirements utilising a wide range of skills, with support and supervision from teaching staff and other professionals
- Assist in supervising the activities of individual and small groups of learners, who have complex needs, in order to ensure their safety, facilitate their education development and develop a supportive and caring relationship
- Assist in physical tasks relating to the care of learners and their individual personal and therapy needs
- Support learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and be committed to supporting an individualised and flexible curriculum which promotes independence, flexibility of thought and sensory integration
Your Experience
Our person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:
- Model professional communication with children/young people and other adults
- Ability to provide feedback on Leaners participation and achievement
- Be willing to undertake and implement training in the use of software and equipment
- Be willing to attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Able to ensure Learners participation in the community
- Be highly motivated
- Be able to follow instruction and work independently
Hours: 29.5 pw
