Firstly, I just want to say a big warm welcome to our school. For new visitors, thank you for taking an interest in Kenn C of E Primary School. We know that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make, we also know that if you choose our school, it will be one of the best decisions that you ever make!
How do we know this? Well, let me tell you…
At Kenn C of E, we understand that children learn best in an environment where they have positive relationships with caring adults, where they feel safe, and where they feel free to explore and learn. We also know that children learn best when they are exposed to real life experiences and opportunities and, through our curriculum, we give the children these wow moments whenever possible. We achieve this through a variety of enrichment activities (including exciting trips out of school, regular forest school and a range of inspiring visitors) alongside our rich and broad curriculum.
Here at Kenn C of E, we take pride in teaching the children the important values of Kindness towards ourselves and others, Courage towards new challenges and making the right choices, and Faith – in ourselves, in those around us and in our spirituality.
Finally, our talented staff really do go the extra mile for both your child and for you. We have a real sense of community and we will take any opportunity to invite you into school to enjoy your child’s education with them, so we can all ‘learn together, shine forever.’
Once again, thank you for taking an interest in our wonderful school.
Mr Joe Baxter | Head of School

The school was inspected by the Diocese of Exeter on 17th June 2014 and was assessed as Outstanding. The inspector concluded that ‘The school has a strong Christian ethos. This has a wide-ranging impact on the whole school community. Pupils readily accept the Christian ethos as a natural part of school life. The integration of the Christian ethos into all parts of school life makes a strong contribution to pupils’ progress in their learning, which overall is above national expectations. They feel that the supportive, encouraging and secure atmosphere of the school is an important factor in their enjoyment of learning.’
The school’s Christian vision has been developed in line with the Church of England Vision of Education and the Exeter Diocese plan for Education. The Head of School prepares a Church School Improvement Plan 2021 to 2023, which the Governing Body regularly monitors the progress of.
National Society Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools Report for Kenn C of E Primary
Our Christian Values RESPECT, COMPASSION, TRUTHFULNESS, FORGIVENESS and FRIENDSHIP and our Christian Vision ‘ASPIRE, BELIEVE AND FLOURISH WITHIN OUR NURTURING COMMUNITY are embedded into our school policies and practise.
Our focus within our worship allows us to explore our feelings, how they affect us and impact on our relationships with one another. We are taught as Christians to trust in God. When we feel unhappy or worried we can share this with Him, when we are happy and joyful we can thank God and share our feelings with Him.
From these pages, we intend to share in detail what our children learn, when they learn it, how it is taught, and why it is important. We aim to deliver our curriculum in an exciting, clear an inspirational way that engages learners and promotes a life long love of learning.
The children learn in our classrooms, using a wide range of resources, in our extensive outdoor spaces, at home through homework and parental engagement, and out of school on trips and educational visits. Our children have told us that they learn best when they have a variety of experiences, and given a mixed diet of learning opportunities.
We have organised our curriculum in a manner that ensures that children learn the skills and knowledge to be able to access the wealth of information and opportunities outside of school, and to prepare our learners for the next chapters in their educational careers.
As well as containing the vital skills and knowledge found in the national curriculum, our curriculum also helps children develop an understanding of various key themes: our locality, diversity, our community, our Christian vision and sustainability. This is all delivered in an inclusive way – we strongly believe that all children at school are equally entitled to be able to access the full breadth of learning. We aim to break down any barriers that children may face, whether it is a disability, a specific learning need, coming from a vulnerable family or social and emotional challenges.
