Welcome

A message from our Head of School.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Kenton Primary School. We are very pleased to be part of Ivy Education Trust, involving four other primary schools and three secondary sites.

Our small, rural school sits in the heart of a thriving village, with the amazing Powderham Castle taking pride of place. There is a lovely family feel here, and our hard working and dedicated staff join together to provide the best possible outcomes for all children who attend our school. We are aspirational for our pupils, teaching them that the sky’s the limit in what they can achieve in life.

As well as academic success, we want our children to be happy, safe and enjoy coming to school. We teach the children about honesty, responsibility, respect and kindness, which link to our ‘secrets of success’ learning behaviours. We work hard to inspire the children to become well rounded individuals who develop a love of lifelong learning.

Our curriculum is progressive and exciting, where all subjects are valued. We offer children Forest School and a high-quality sports provision as we work in partnership with both South Dartmoor and Tyrell Sport and Education. We provide many opportunities to sing and play musical instruments or perform on stage and we encourage our children to take on leadership roles wherever possible, such as a school ambassador or being part of the School Council.

We have high expectations for our pupils, and we are so proud of their achievements. This is a very special school, with a wonderful team and an amazing group of children.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Kenton Primary School family.

Mrs Gemma Pattison | Head of School

About

History of Kenton School

pic5.jpg

‘The Church House’ dates from around the 1550’s and is said to be one of the oldest school buildings in Devon. It was originally used as a Poorhouse to the Parish, but in 1818 it was recorded that two rooms were let out as a ‘National School’ with about 100 pupils.

Nowadays, the school has been re-furbished to house 4 classrooms, a hall and a library. Although the playground is small, we have a lovely court space to play games as well as climbing equipment and ‘Hobbit’ land to explore. The school also has its own field and we visit Methley Meadow for our Forest School sessions.
