Lliswerry High School

Teacher of Welsh

Full time, fixed term until 31.08.2026, MPS2-UPS3

Interview date: Wednesday 22nd May. If shortlisted, you will be notified by email or phone on the afternoon of the 18th. You will then need to prepare and teach a 30-minute Welsh lesson to a mixed-ability Year 7 class on a topic of your choice, designed to inspire awe and wonder in our learners.

Lliswerry High School is a thriving, multi-cultural, 11-18 mixed comprehensive school on the eastern side of Newport close to the M4. We currently have a superb opportunity for a Teacher of Welsh to join us, working on a full-time basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an inspirational Teacher of Welsh to make a positive difference to the lives and futures of our learners. We are looking for an experienced practitioner who will motivate and inspire our learners through their own passion for Welsh. The successful candidate will teach across the age and ability range and will be a key part of our supportive and successful team.

We welcome applications from Welsh teachers or Welsh‑speaking teachers of other disciplines. Proficiency in Welsh is essential, as the role requires Welsh to be the main language of instruction.

They will be a key part of our supportive and successful International Languages team.

It is anticipated that the person appointed will:

● be an excellent classroom practitioner

● possess excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills

● demonstrate high standards of professionalism in all respects

● be a positive role model to colleagues and learners alike

● possess ambition, belief, resilience, determination and a sense of humour

● possess the ability to motivate and inspire learners and to build positive relationships

● have high expectations of themselves, colleagues and learners

● be committed to their own professional learning

● have the ability to develop excellent working relationships with all stakeholders

● be able to use data to support learner progress effectively

● be committed to the vision of our school

Please contact the school using the e-mail address or phone number shown in the application instructions if you have any queries or would just like to discuss the post informally with the Headteacher or with the Leader of Learning for International Languages.

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).
