About the Role

As Assistant Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the culture and lived experience of students and staff at Mangotsfield School. Working as part of a proactive and innovative Senior Leadership Team, you will lead safeguarding, staff wellbeing and whole‑school celebration, along with working collaboratively with colleagues across the trust to ensure our shared ambition is realised.

You will act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, taking overall responsibility for safeguarding and child protection so that every young person is protected, supported and able to thrive. Alongside this you will provide strategic leadership across areas that sit at the heart of our Respect value; championing staff wellbeing and overseeing the school’s awards and celebration strategy to strengthen belonging, pride and connection across our community.

This is a role for a leader who can inspire confidence, build strong relationships, and drive high standards while modelling the values that sit at the heart of Mangotsfield School.

About You

We are looking for a values-driven leader who is passionately committed to inclusive education. You should be someone who thrives on collaboration and sees the importance of strong school leadership.

You will be someone who:

  • Has proven experience in safeguarding and child protection, with the expertise and up‑to‑date legislative knowledge required to act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Is motivated to lead others with a blend of courage, curiosity and compassion
  • Brings an ability to identify challenges, generate solutions and drive sustained improvement
  • Has the motivation and interpersonal skill to inspire staff, students and families building trust and confidence through strong relationships
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Trust’s vision and values, modelling integrity, accountability and high expectations
  • Champions inclusion and equity, ensuring that every child is valued, respected and supported regardless of background, characteristics or need and that our culture reflects the values of Respect at every level
  • Shows ambition for yourself and others with a desire to come and make a difference to others and yourself, on your own career path and journey.

About Mangotsfield School

Mangotsfield School has been recognised by Ofsted as a “rapidly improving, community focused, ambitious school.” In our last inspection we were awarded Good in all categories, a testament to the vision and dedication of the leadership and teaching body.

Mangotsfield School has a strong ethos built on our four values. In all aspects of school life we encourage students to love learning, embrace challenges, give and earn respect and grow our community. Our classrooms, our corridors, our systems are built on these values and this supports our culture where we can meet individual needs and close the gaps for our students.

Mangotsfield School is a local secondary school firmly rooted in and proudly working within the community which it serves. The school is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings on the north-eastern outskirts of Bristol. Mangotsfield School became an academy as part of the Castle School Education Trust in September 2015 and works in partnership with Downend School to deliver 16-19 opportunities for all students. We are committed to the professional development of all staff.

We can offer you:

  • Happy, engaging students who thrive on inspirational leadership
  • A supportive trust and school community
  • Strong collaboration across the trust family of schools and access to a centralised team of specialists across all areas of school operations
  • A commitment to high‑quality CPD, with dedicated time and budget for your development
  • A values‑driven ethos where diversity, equity and inclusion are lived every day
  • Recognition of continuous service (modification order) to protect employment rights and entitlements
  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and death‑in‑service cover
