Olchfa School is looking to appoint an experienced teacher to take a leading role in the exciting development of a new Specialist Teaching Facility (STF) at the school. As a part of the wide-ranging review of STF provision across the Local Authority, Olchfa is introducing an STF for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).
The STF will roll out over the next few years. It is envisaged that, by the time of the completion of the roll-out, the STF will meet the needs of 18 young people aged between 11 and 16. Those young people will be supported by two full time specialist teachers and two full time specialist Teaching Assistants, housed in a dedicated suite of facilities. The successful candidate will be one with the vision, skills, drive and experience to launch the STF, ensuring that its learners are included fully in the life of the school, whilst also receiving the specialist and bespoke support they need.
The successful candidate, working as a part of the Learning Support Team, will have a large degree of autonomy to develop programmes of study for each young person within the STF, ensuring that their educational and personal development proceeds in a caring and inclusive but also ambitious environment. This role offers significant opportunities for creativity, imagination and initiative for a candidate who cares deeply for young people facing the challenges posed by Severe Learning Difficulties and who wishes to see those young people thrive as part of a warm, friendly and highly successful school.
Olchfa is a large and busy school, with productive relationships between pupils and staff. Although we have approximately 1900 pupils on roll, the school retains a warm, family feel where learning takes place in partnership with families. In all key stages, we achieve results which place the school amongst the leading education providers in Wales, both in raw and value-added terms. The school’s governing body, leadership team and teaching staff are never complacent; we know that we have to keep evolving what we do in order to meet the rapidly changing world around us and the needs of our pupils.
At Olchfa, we actively encourage collaborative working and research to develop innovative teaching and learning practices, which enable all our pupils and 6th form students to reach their full potential. Olchfa’s success is reflected through our ambition, our team ethos and support for one another, sustaining a positive atmosphere for learning, and the achievements of our pupils, of which we are proud. Of course, our examination results are hugely important. However, school life is also about far more than that. Olchfa offers a wealth of wider opportunities to its pupils including sport, expressive arts, visits and activities. Every year, we offer several trips involving foreign travel. We are proud to celebrate Welshness and the Welsh language alongside the diversity of backgrounds that helps make Olchfa such a vibrant place to work and to learn.
You will be offered excellent guidance, support and ongoing development whilst at Olchfa. The school offers many opportunities for personal and professional growth and development, we take staff wellbeing seriously and can offer an attractive package which includes access to subsidised private health care for those who choose to use it. All we ask in return is your commitment to achieving excellence, your ability to inspire others and a passion for your subject.
