Role: Lead Teaching Assistant EAL

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 32.5 hours per week, Term time only plus INSETs

Pay Scale: Grade 9 £ 29,540 - £32,061 per annum (£22,318 - £24,222 pro rata)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic EAL (English as an Additional Language) Lead Teaching Assistant to support students whose first language is not English.

This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils across a range of abilities to help them develop their English language skills, access the curriculum, and fully participate in school life. You will play a key part in raising achievement and promoting inclusion within our diverse school community.

Key Responsibilities

As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support students with English as an additional language in class and through targeted interventions

• Help pupils develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills

• Work closely with teachers to adapt classroom resources and lessons to meet pupils’ needs

• Provide one-to-one and small group support

• Assist with assessing students’ progress and maintaining accurate records

• Encourage confidence, independence and engagement in learning

• Support the pastoral and social integration of EAL students

• Liaise effectively with staff, parents/carers and external agencies where appropriate

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children or young people (school experience desirable)

• Has a good standard of education, including English and Maths

• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Is patient, empathetic and supportive

• Can adapt learning approaches to meet diverse needs

• Is well organised and able to work independently and as part of a team

• Has a genuine commitment to inclusion and supporting all learners

Desirable:

• Experience supporting EAL learners or multilingual students

• Knowledge of strategies for language acquisition

• Ability to speak an additional language
