We are looking for a caring, organised and confident School Health, Medical & Welfare Officer to join our team at Bradley Stoke Community School.
This is an important and rewarding role at the heart of our school community. Working closely with our SEND, safeguarding and Front Office teams, you will help ensure that the physical and mental health needs of our students are understood, planned for and met effectively throughout the school day.
About the role
You will take a lead role in coordinating medical and welfare support for students, building positive relationships with students and families and working closely with colleagues and external health professionals.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Creating, reviewing and communicating individual medical plans in partnership with parents, staff and external professionals.
• Supporting students with medical needs and working closely with the SENDCo and Learning Support Team.
• Supporting students accessing Section 19 provision, including referrals, welfare check-ins and reintegration planning.
• Leading allergy planning and ensuring the appropriate arrangements are in place for medicines and medical equipment.
• Acting as the school's lead member of staff for First Aid and helping coordinate first aid provision across the school.
• Maintaining staff First Aid at Work training records.
• Working with colleagues to plan appropriate medical provision for educational visits and trips.
About you
We are looking for someone who is calm, caring and approachable, with excellent organisational and communication skills and the confidence to respond appropriately when medical situations arise.
You will have GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent, and either relevant administrative experience or a qualification in administration. You should have experience of providing first aid, an understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and good knowledge of record keeping and confidentiality. A current First Aid at Work qualification is required, although we welcome applicants who are willing to obtain this within an agreed timeframe.
Experience within a school or healthcare environment would be particularly valuable. Qualifications or experience in areas such as paediatric first aid, healthcare support, medical administration, Mental Health First Aid or supporting children with conditions such as diabetes, asthma, epilepsy or severe allergies would also be welcomed. A nursing qualification is desirable but not essential.
Above all, you will be someone who puts children at the centre of their work and understands the importance of providing compassionate, professional and discreet support.
