About Us

Philip Southcote School is a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities School for students aged 11 to 19. We are extremely proud of our educational offer which has the overarching goal of preparing our students for adulthood. Philip Southcote School is a place where students quickly establish a sense of belonging and feel safe throughout their educational journey with us.

Spread across five sites within Surrey, each learning provision is staffed and resourced to meet the individual needs of all Philip Southcote students.

Philip Southcote Main School: A 3-Form Entry site for students aged 11 to 16 years.

Philip Southcote Sixth Form: For students age 16 to 19 years, this state of the art and newly opened site at The Meads is within walking distance from the main school.

Philip Southcote Satellite Centres: Our centres are based within mainstream secondary schools. Chertsey High School, Chertsey, Epsom and Ewell High School and Kings International School, Camberley.

The Philip Southcote School Website will provide you with a wide range of useful information about our school and its community and introduce you to our school ethos, values and philosophy behind the holistic education we provide.

We believe every individual is unique and special and deserves the best educational opportunities; we facilitate this by providing a safe, exciting and challenging learning environment, created by a hardworking and dedicated staff team.

We are proud of all our pupils and their range of achievements, not only learning but in their social skills, their sense of fun and their contribution to the Southcote Community. We encourage all our pupils to be as independent as possible, both in their learning and in their social and personal development.

The philosophy of our school is embedded in our school’s motto “Learning for Life” where we place equal importance on:

  • Academic Progress
  • Physical and Emotional Wellbeing
  • Enrichment and Skills for Life

Our goal is that all our students are enabled to be active learners, to be curious, and given opportunities to take risks, have fun and explore their ideas.

Learning in our school does not stop at the classroom door. Our curriculum balances meeting individual needs with ensuring pupils access broad, balanced and rich learning experiences.

Communication is at the heart of our curriculum and this empowers our pupils as individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and experience which make the learning journey enjoyable and meaningful.

Our unique school is full of diversity and we are rightly proud of the therapeutic provision on offer to our community.

Our Deaf Pupil Provision and Physical Development Department, offer highly personalised support and interventions and are complemented by our NHS partners, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and the Physical and Sensory Support Service.

We provide as many opportunities as possible for our pupils to take part in stimulating and challenging activities with many pupils enjoying the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, school sporting matches, swimming lessons, community support group and dance and singing workshops.

Our pupils are at the heart of Southcote Community, being an integral part of shaping their own future through learning opportunities in the classroom, residential visits, clubs, being part of a team and the whole school community

Bourne Education Trust

Bourne Education Trust (‘BET’) was established in 2011 and has grown steadily since then. It is largely Surrey based, but has also expanded into Hampshire and Richmond. It is made up of 21 academies, 4 associate schools and one free school due to open in September 2024. Of its 26 schools, 14 are primaries, 9 are secondaries, and, with the new free school, 3 are specialist schools. It is responsible for the education of approximately 12,500 pupils and employs just over 1,300 staff. The Trust is organised into both phases and clusters to support collaboration.

The size of its schools ranges from a one-form entry primary to an eight-form entry secondary school with a sixth form. Schools are equally important and carry the same influence in terms of decision-making within the Trust. Each school has its own Head and Local Governing Committee. The Trust is led by Alex Russell, Kate Sanders, Rob Isaac and Penny Alford.
