About our School

Romiley Primary School is a two form entry School of approximately 460 pupils with a Nursery class that has 40 places available. Our aim is to ensure that Romiley Primary is a place where every child feels safe and happy and thus ready to learn and achieve.

We strive to set high standards of work and discipline in an environment that is positive, encouraging and respectful. We offer children a range of experiences both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. Through these we seek to develop the whole child – intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually.

Moral values are highly prized and promoted by all staff both in terms of their personal behaviour and in the attitudes and values they convey to children through daily interaction, assemblies, class teaching and the expectations they have of pupils and their attitudes to one another. The school has very high expectations of good behaviour and this is reflected in a well ordered community where pupils have a clear sense of right and wrong. Honesty, endeavour, achievement, respect and truth, are just some of the values that the school constantly strives to promote.

We recognise that partnership between School and home, between teachers and parents is essential if your children are to be given the best opportunities to which they are entitled.

Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Romiley Primary School.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Romiley Primary School. Our entire school community demonstrates their exceptional resilience, positivity and exceptional support for one another on a daily basis.

My vision for all learners at Romiley Primary School is that they know they have a unique and valuable voice, that they understand that the culture of tomorrow is not yet defined and that they are able to influence, shape, challenge and lead culture rather than simply fit in to society.

In order to do this, we need high expectations of each other. Our children need the very best academic outcomes they can achieve, but they also need to develop skills and attributes far beyond the academic. We have three words that form the bedrock of everything we do at Romiley Primary school: Resilient, Positive, Supportive. We want our children to develop these skills and attributes in a collaborative and supportive community. We learn best, when we learn together.

I hope you find everything you need on our website but if you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit to our wonderful school, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We trust that our website will be informative and helpful in further developing the existing co-operation between home and school so that, in partnership together, we can serve the best interests of the children in our care.

Kind regards,

Mr A Bassett

Background & History

Romiley Primary School is situated on the outskirts of Greater Manchester in the suburban area of Romiley. The school has served the community since 1867 and has operated on its current site since 1914.

Our school is a wonderful mix of both old and new which blend together superbly. The ‘old’ building was built in 1914 with a £2,000,000 extension built in 2005. The school has grown having 252 on roll in 1914 to now being a two form entry school with approximately 460 children on roll aged from 3 years to 11 years old.

The catchment area covers the whole of Romiley village making Romiley Primary a true community school. Strong and long established ties with the local community are a strength of the school.

We have a large staff base, each bringing with them a range of personal qualities and expertise that truly gives our children with the best possible care and education we can provide. Two members of the teaching staff have been recognised in two successive years as Teacher of the Year , North West and Highly Commended. We have a low turnover of staff – once here they do not seem to leave!

The school is also supported by the Governing Body and the PTA. The Governing Body are fully committed to supporting and developing the philosophies and ethos of the school while the PTA are forever active in raising funds to enhance the teaching and learning within the lessons and the environment.

Visitors to our school regularly say they feel a warmth and a sense of being welcomed and valued as soon as they come through the door. Many parents who choose to send their children to our school cite the special but unquantifiable feel they get when they first cross the threshold.

We welcome visitors at any time – please contact the school office to make an appointment.
