Welcome to Selwood Academy. We are an Anglican / Methodist Foundation Middle school serving the needs of children aged 9 - 13 in years 5 – 8 and sit at the heart of the community of Frome.
As a school, our vision is to allow our whole community to “let your light shine before others.” This is underpinned by our Christian values of Hope, Wisdom, Community and Joy. Every act and decision that we undertake has this in mind
The children at Selwood Academy are a delight and they make coming to school exciting and enriching every day. As Headteacher, I feel very blessed to lead, develop and share their love of learning alongside our dedicated staff team.
At Selwood we are committed to creating a safe, happy and enriching environment where we all aspire to thrive, achieve and celebrate success together. Our aim is to promote the dignity and well-being of every child and staff member and ensure they flourish in the course of their journey with us.
Our Christian foundations ensure that we value each child as unique and special and we dedicate ourselves to ensuring that our children are loved, cared for, challenged and given every opportunity to fulfil their god given potential.
We know our children well and they are proud to share their school with all who visit. We have a very special uniqueness to our Ethos from the moment people step through our doors.
Mr Dan Jeffries
Headteacher
Vision
We are committed to creating a safe, happy and enriching environment where we all aspire to thrive, achieve and celebrate success together.
Our aim is to promote the dignity and well-being of every child and staff member and ensure they flourish in the course of their journey with us.
Values
Our core Christian values of Hope, Wisdom , Community and Joy underpin all that we strive to achieve to enable our ‘light to shine before others’ Matthew 5:16
We are recognised as a warm, caring and vibrant community. We are ambitious for our students and work collaboratively with local partners to ensure that all of our stakeholders are able to “let their light shine before others”. This is lived out through diverse educational opportunities, a rigorous and coherent curriculum as well as proactive pastoral support, grounded through our work as a Thrive school. As part of our vision staff wellbeing is paramount, we have hugely supportive staff, with a wellbeing team in place.
Recognition for staff is at the forefront of our practice and we have policies in place to support this, including a reasonable feedback policy, flexible working opportunities, supportive relationship policy and relentless support from all leaders to support all staff to fulfill their potential through high quality CPD and support.
All staff have access to a wealth of CPD opportunities both internally and across Somerset. We value and actively promote quality staff development and welcome the rich opportunities for growth that comes with new appointments. Staff at all stages of their career access a strong supportive appraisal process, which actively seeks to develop innovative and engaging teaching and support across the school. We run a successful associate leadership programme for those seeking opportunities to move into leadership which is open to all staff. Staff are highly professional, approachable and supportive. We very much look forward to welcoming you to our community.
Our Latest OFSTED report from June 2022 shares how ‘Pupils are friendly and polite. Pupils know what is expected of them. They enjoy learning about a wide range of subjects. Pupils listen carefully to teachers and respond well to their questions. Pupils conduct themselves well.’ As a school we are very proud of the pupils we have and their attitudes to learning.
