Welcome

St Andrew’s is a Roman Catholic Comprehensive School for students aged 11-18. It is a vibrant and dynamic school with high expectations and great ambitions for every one of its students. We believe that discipline, structure and common purpose are solid foundations in life and education, and that working closely with parents is essential if we are to be the best school possible for every child in our care.

About Us

Our aim

Our aim is to be the best school in the country, where students feel safe and happy and that during their time at St Andrew’s they will receive a better educational experience than if they attended any other school. We aim to help everyone in our school community to grow in faith and to make the most of their innate ability. The culture and ethos of the school is one where we all have high expectations of each other, we recognise that everyone learns differently and that making mistakes and taking risks are both part of learning.

Each child is unique

Each child is unique, they are loved and valued. They deserve the best and that is what we aim to give them. They are our greatest ambassadors and they are supported by a team of staff united in encouraging, guiding, motivating and challenging each one of them to be the best they can be

Ethos and Values

St Andrew’s Catholic School Mission Statement

“To Live, to Learn and to Love in the Light of Christ”

"Our Mission is to be a Catholic School in which our students will develop into young adults who achieve their full potential: spiritually, morally and academically. In an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect our young people will develop active and creative minds, understanding and compassion for others, opportunities to grow in faith and the courage to be true to their beliefs.

Students and staff work together to create a community where Gospel values permeate all our practices, policies, decisions, words and actions. We are guided by Christ’s teaching and each day we strive to follow his examples of love, reconciliation, integrity, justice, humility and service.”

THE ST ANDREW’S ETHOS

Being a teacher is a unique opportunity to have a positive effect on the happiness and life chances of the students in our care. I truly believe that it is the best job in the world and hence one that brings with it a tremendous responsibility which we must never take lightly. Our job together with all members of staff, is to create an ethos where every child can succeed, be happy and one where there are no barriers to success.

One of the key ways our Mission Statement is realised is through our Chaplaincy. We support our students in reaching and exceeding their academic potential by ensuring that alongside the curriculum they have opportunities to develop spiritually, morally, emotionally and socially.

We begin every day in prayer. Our weekly Year Assemblies are led by students and staff and follow the Theme of the Week. On the other four days in Tutor Time Form Tutors and students further explore our Theme of the Week and use our Prayer Booklet which contain mini assemblies personally written for St Andrew’s.

All students are offered a Retreat experience which gives them a chance to explore, discuss, reflect on and pray about issues that help them to develop their spirituality, self-awareness and self-worth and to strengthen their relationship with one another and with God. At Key Stage 4 and 5 we offer residential retreats, a chance for students to really focus on issues that help them to develop.

At St Andrew’s we seek to live out Christ’s commandment to “love one another” and one way of witnessing to this is to educate our students about the needs of others at a local, national and international level. Every year we have great fun whilst we raise money and awareness of a variety of charities.

We encourage all members of our community to plan, participate and present in our many acts of worship throughout the year – this ranges from vibrant Whole School Masses to Class Masses, Services of Reconciliation, A Service of Welcome, Morning Prayer, Leavers’ Liturgy and Mass to name but a few. These Liturgies are enhanced by the students’ fantastic music, singing, drama and reading. Alongside this the Chapel remains open for Prayer during RE lessons or more impromptu prayer before school and during break times.

At St Andrew’s all staff contribute to the liturgical, spiritual and charitable life of the school. Heads of Year, Heads of House, Form Tutors and the RE Department have particular roles in leading on prayer, Assemblies, school Mass, Retreats, charities and community work supported by all staff.
