Welcome

A message from our Headteacher

Welcome to Starcross Primary School and Pre-School. Starcross is a wonderful school, full of energetic and enthusiastic children who thrive with staff who nurture, care and plan for their learning step by step. I joined the school as Headteacher in September 2023 and am looking forward to getting to know our amazing community of children, families and staff.

At Starcross Primary School we aim to develop children both academically and pastorally; to develop them as kind, resilient, independent citizens and motivated learners who love school and have an appetite for lifelong learning.

We have a wonderful team of experienced and dedicated staff. From our admin team to teaching support staff, teachers to maintenance team, kitchen team to senior leaders, we are all here to provide the very best care, learning experience and outcomes for our pupils.

Our school was built in 1837 and has been through many developments over the years. We are now a school of around 210 pupils with a community feel both inside and outside the classrooms. Our excellent facilities include:

a brand new playground, a swimming pool, that all classes can use, a fantastic preschool setting as part of the school, which enables all children to begin their learning journey with amazing learning opportunities, a great outdoor learning environment, including our nature area and gardens, scooter and bicycle storage on site, so all children and their families can be healthy for life and a superb kitchen, with delicious hot meals for everyone cooked by our highly professional caterers.

We plan and teach a rich curriculum based on the National Curriculum. Children learn Literacy, Maths, Science, Art, DT, History, Geography, Computing, PE, French, Music, RE and PSHE each year. Our curriculum is constantly evolving, we are working hard on ensuring all of our learning is planned in a careful sequence so that children explore and learn the key objectives step by step. We plan learning which links together ideas, using topics and exciting stimuli to help children know and remember more over time. Our experienced teaching team are passionate about ensuring children have access to the best curriculum learning, we link up with local teachers, access training and research to make every subject brilliant. Have a look at our curriculum page for more detailed information about our subjects and what we teach in each year.
