Welcome

St Elizabeth's is unique. We enable everyone to thrive, where a complex need is not a barrier to living a full life.

Based across 60 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, St Elizabeth's is a charity supporting children, young people and adults with complex needs, the severity of which impacts upon their health, social, behaviour, learning and emotional development.

For over 120 years, St Elizabeth's has grown and developed to comprise a non-maintained Specialist School, seven individually registered Children's Homes, a Sixth Form, a specialist Further Education College, Supported Living in the local community, adult community learning for adult day clients and 24 hour health provision provided by specialist nurses and therapists.

The charity was previously one of the charitable works of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liège (“the Congregation”), a Catholic religious congregation, founded in 1833 in Liège, Belgium. On 1st October 2018, St Elizabeth's Centre became a charity in it's own right, continuing the wonderful work established by the Daughters of the Cross of Liège over 120 years ago.

Welcome to St Elizabeth's

Live life to the full | Aspirational, Collaborative, Joyful, Compassionate

St Elizabeth's School

St Elizabeth's School is a Specialist School for young people aged 5 - 16 years. We offer a warm, welcoming, safe and secure environment for children from all over the UK.

The School is a centre of expertise in supporting and educating young people with moderate or severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) or other complex neurological conditions potentially caused or complicated by epilepsy. Our Multi-Disciplinary Teams, in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital, equip the School to serve a wide range of complex needs such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), language and communication needs or challenging behaviours.

As either a residential or day pupil, every young person we welcome to our School is unique and valued. Our integrated care, therapeutic and academic provision is planned around the individual and delivered through a seamless, coordinated and consistent waking day curriculum, either in the classrooms or in our residential accommodation, available all year round.

Supporting pupils to make progress and develop independence skills is at the heart of everything we do, providing a safe and caring environment in which they can achieve their fullest potential.

St Elizabeth’s maintains as a Roman Catholic School, but we are fully inclusive and welcome children from all faiths or of no religion. Religious Education and our Christian ethos is taught by all teachers, and supported by our Catholic Ethos Advocate. Our Centre chapel is used frequently for Mass and our many prayer rooms give anyone the opportunity for quiet reflection throughout the day. If they choose, children can be prepared to receive their First Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation.

St Elizabeth's Sixth Form

Screenshot_2026-01-26_133726.jpg

Our Sixth Form is a happy, welcoming place; our aim is to help all learners to grow in confidence as they acquire new knowledge and skills, in their own way, at their own pace – socially, emotionally and academically.

At St Elizabeth’s Sixth Form, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life. Our approach is rooted in developing confidence, independence, and a strong sense of personal responsibility - skills that prepare our learners for adulthood.

For our students, Sixth Form is about making choices in daily life, taking ownership of personal routines, participating in work experience, or supporting peers in shared activities. These moments, however small, are powerful steps towards greater self-advocacy and independence.

Through tailored support, a nurturing environment, and real-world opportunities, our Sixth Form helps students build life skills, grow in confidence, and contribute positively to their Sixth Form and wider community.

At St Elizabeth’s, we instil in our students that Sixth Form is a place to become the best version of yourself while learning essential skills, and to take your place in the world with pride.
