SENCo (EHCP Lead)

SENCo Role | Part-time – 2 or 3 days per week (negotiable with the candidate)

Start date: September 2026

Contract: Permanent

Salary: MPS/UPS

St Paul’s CofE Primary School & Nursery is a thriving, inclusive school rooted in the belief that every child deserves to belong, be understood, and flourish. We are seeking an experienced and passionate SENCo to join our team, with a clearly defined and autonomous responsibility for children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This is a deliberate, strategic appointment that strengthens our SEN capacity. The successful candidate will not be an assistant or deputy, but a Second SENCo with their own distinct area of responsibility, working in close partnership with our existing SENCo.

About the Role

The SENCo team at St Paul’s is structured intentionally:

  • Existing SENCo: leads on pre-EHCP identification, early intervention, and emerging needs
  • This role: leads on all children with EHCPs
  • Your responsibility will span mainstream classes and our ASD Unit, ensuring that statutory provision is robust, provision is impactful, and children with EHCPs are fully included, supported, and challenged.

You will:

  • Hold strategic and operational responsibility for children with EHCPs
  • Lead and quality-assure EHCP implementation across the school and ASD Unit
  • Manage annual reviews, professional reports, and Local Authority liaison
  • Work closely with families, external professionals, and teaching staff
  • Support staff to adapt teaching and provision so EHCP outcomes are meaningful and measurable
  • Contribute as an equal professional voice within the SEN and wider leadership team
  • This role exists because we take inclusion seriously and recognise that children with EHCPs deserve focused, expert leadership.
  • Work alongside and support the early intervention SENCo with any aspects required.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher with the National SENCo Award /NPQSENCo(or working towards it)
  • Has strong experience leading provision for children with EHCPs, including complex needs
  • Understands both mainstream and specialist (ASD) provision
  • Is confident, organised, and unafraid to advocate for children and families
  • Brings clarity, calm, and high expectations to complex situations
  • Shares our belief that behaviour is communication and inclusion is everyone’s responsibility

Why Join Us?

  • A clearly defined SENCo role with genuine leadership responsibility
  • An established and respected ASD Unit
  • A collaborative SEN structure – shared leadership, not overload
  • A skilled, nurturing staff team committed to doing the right thing
  • Leadership that prioritises integrity, wellbeing, and impact over compliance

Our Ethos

At St Paul’s, our Christian vision – Learning in God’s Love – underpins everything we do. We are highly inclusive and stand firmly by the belief that every child belongs and can flourish with the right support.

If you are someone who wants the opportunity to make a genuine difference for children with EHCPs, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact us to arrange a tour and an informal discussion.

We reserve the right to shortlist and appoint prior to the closing date, so early application is advised.
