We are a medical pupil referral unit (PRU) providing education for children and young people admitted to The Children’s Trust, Tadworth, for rehabilitation programmes following an acquired brain injury (ABI). Some of our pupils may have special educational needs resulting from a degenerative syndrome or condition. Pupils are admitted for between 6 and 12 weeks on average, and come from all over the UK.
We know that the children and young people who come to us are facing enormous difficulties and that they, their families and their carers need support and understanding.
The education staff at Surrey Teaching Centre include qualified teachers and skilled teaching assistants who have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Teamwork is a key component of our ethos and we work closely with other professionals within The Children’s Trust team.
Our children and young people are all individuals and on admission, all pupils have a comprehensive assessment of their needs resulting in a personalised curriculum. We focus on the areas highlighted by the assessment and incorporate specific learning strategies for pupils with an acquired brain injury. Our personal pathways provision is a strength of our curriculum.
