Meet our people

Why Work for TMET

The Mead Educational Trust (TMET) is a growing partnership of 13 schools (eight primary and five secondary) in Leicester and Leicestershire.

We believe that together we make a positive difference – to the life chances of our children, to our communities and to each other.

Many organisations say that their staff are their greatest asset; at TMET we truly believe it. The success of our schools and our Trust depends on the quality of our staff, and we know how important it is to retain and develop good people.

All staff have access to training, qualifications, secondments and progression routes. Many staff who join us as teaching assistants and in support roles progress to become teachers and senior leaders.

The Mead Institute for Professional Learning is the training hub for all our staff. It encompasses the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT and the Leicester and Leicestershire Teaching School Hub and offers teacher training, professional qualifications (NPQs) and other CPD for teachers and support staff.

Every Mead school has its own character and ethos, grown out of its own history and the community it serves, but we also work closely together to share ideas, expertise, resources and central support. We value cross phase work, and our primary and secondary schools support and learn from each other.

While our schools have common values and core operational systems, these are adapted locally for individual contexts and needs.

We aim to make sure that every Mead employee has a great work environment; that they enjoy coming to work and know that they are making a positive difference.

Staff Benefits and Rewards

We believe that every Mead employee deserves a great work environment. Our aim is that all our staff enjoy coming to work and know that they are making a positive difference.

  • A happy and fulfilling workplace – 96% of our staff say this is a friendly place to work and 93% are clear about how their role helps to improve our schools.
  • Career and personal development – opportunities to learn new skills through networking, mentoring, conferences, work shadowing, webinars, podcasts, and more.
  • Career development pathways – for staff at all layers and in all roles, showing clear progression routes from where you are now to where you want to be.
  • Generous employer pension contribution – for both teachers and support staff.
  • GP helpline – free, 24/7 confidential telephone and video appointments with NHS registered doctors, whenever you need it.
  • Cross school networks – linking you with colleagues in similar roles across schools for advice, sharing good practice and support.
  • A community of like-minded colleagues – staff across all schools and the central team who strive to be the best they can be and believe that together we make a positive difference.
  • Confidential counselling support – 24/7 telephone helpline offering expert support for whatever issue you’re facing – mental, physical, financial or personal, plus face to face counselling if needed.
  • Dependant benefits – the counselling service and GP helpline are also available to staff dependents free of charge.
  • Guaranteed living wage – we are committed to paying the living wage to all staff.
  • Lifestyle Savings – Access a huge range of savings across the UK’s major retailers including food, travel, days out, fitness and eating out.
  • Well-being online platform – a whole range of online resources and tools for managing finances, dealing with stress, keeping fit and much more.
  • Health Cash Plan - For a small monthly fee, claim back the costs of opticians, dentists, physiotherapy, acupuncture, NHS prescription charges, and more.
