Relief Mini-Bus Drivers

West Lea School is a special school catering for students aged 4-19 with special educational needs across the borough of Enfield.

We are looking to appoint casual School Minibus Drivers working school term times throughout the year, who can be available at short notice and who are by nature very patient, naturally caring and very reliable.

There are 2 aspects of this role and we are willing to accept applicants for one or both roles:

You will be responsible for collecting pupils and staff from one of the West Lea sites located within the borough of Enfield and transporting students safely to and from venues for Work Experience, PE lessons or school trips, returning them back to school at the end of the day.

You will assist with the collection of furniture donations for our West Lea Charity shops and with the collection and delivery of bread products from the Warburtons factory; to local primary schools in Enfield. Both of these roles involve working alongside students and interns and will require you to assist with the lifting and moving of furniture or bread donations.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Drive the minibus in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Highway Code to maintain pupil, staff and public safety whilst on the highway.
• Be responsible for the health and safety, comfort and welfare of pupils and staff whilst being transported in the vehicle
• Assist pupils on and off the vehicle, using the steps or tail lift, ensuring wheelchairs are clamped etc. in order to prevent accidents and meet good ‘moving and handling’ practice.
• Throughout the journey ensure that pupils remain seated, stopping when necessary to ensure that the safety of pupils and staff is maintained at all times.
• Refuelling vehicles as required.
• Working within health and safety guidelines and other guidelines that may be issued from time-to-time.
• Reporting any vehicle defects, faults, incidents and accidents.

Person Specification

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the young people in its care and all posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check. Under DVLA and school regulations the successful candidate must have:

• Have a Midas qualification (If not we will book you in for this course)
•A category D1 on their licence
• Have a qualified driver with a full, clean license.
• Hold current driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points. If a driver has less than 6 points, the driver may still be precluded if the points are for dangerous driving.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo Midas training (or similar) and training in moving and handling. Full training on vehicle familiarisation and passenger safety will be provided for the successful applicant.
