Our history
Weston College has served the education and training needs of its local community for more than 150 years. It has its origins in private drawing and painting classes provided by Henry Stacy in Oriel Terrace in 1859.
The School of Art was opened on February 7th 1865 under the auspices of the Government's Department of Science and Art, and with the aid of £40 collected from local residents. In its first year of existence the Principal was the only teacher and approximately 80 students attended the six classes held weekly.Since 1 April 1993, the College has been an autonomous public body
Weston College is committed to creating an inclusive environment, where people are treated with dignity and respect and where we anticipate and respond positively to different needs and circumstances so that everyone can achieve their potential.
We are committed to promoting and advancing equality of opportunity, not only because it is an important part of the mission, vision and values of the College, but also because, by attracting and retaining the most diverse range of talented learners, staff and partners, we will ensure the College’s future success.
We believe that everyone has the right to be treated fairly and without discrimination, regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, circumstances or background.
We are proud of our success in widening access to education to all sectors of the community and of our record of attracting learners from under represented socio-economic backgrounds.
To promote equality, eliminate discrimination and promote good relations between people, Weston College has various policies, structures and services in place, all of which are detailed here in this ‘one stop shop’ for equality and diversity at Weston College.
