Senior Learning Support Assistant 

JOB OVERVIEW

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented, highly motivated and dedicated individual to lead a team of Learning Support Assistants. Responsibilities will include managing, mentoring and developing the team to ensure our pupils are appropriately supported to achieve their learning goals and potential.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and awareness of a variety of approaches to supporting learning, alongside experience of similar work. You will be adaptable and resourceful, have excellent communication skills, be able to work as part of a team and have strong IT skills. As Senior Learning Support Assistant you will lead by example and bring out the best in others. Previous experience of leading a team is also highly desirable.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Term Time Hours - 8.00am to 4.00pm 35 hours per week over 5 days.
  • Working with a wide range of class teachers to deliver excellent teaching and learning.
  • Coaching children on a 1:1 basis.
  • Accompanying groups on trips.
  • Supporting assessment and evidencing learning
  • Maintaining a safe and positive environment for all learners
  • Creating opportunities for all learners to reach their potential, irrespective of ability
  • Assist in the support and inclusion of children with special educational and behavioural needs including disability and medical needs 
  • Supervise/co-ordinate the work and time of the other learning support assistants, ensuring consistent practice.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.
  • A minimum of two years' experience of working with children is desirable but not essential (either paid or unpaid capacity) preferably in a secondary education setting.
  • Experience of supervising staff (highly desirable)
  • Experience of working with pupils with a variety of complex needs and finding learning difficult, is also desirable.
  • a proven ability to work on their own initiative.
  • a high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults.
  • the ability to use relevant technology/equipment.
  • a can-do attitude.
  • Willingness to work constructively to lead a team. Supervise, motivate, challenge team members to work independently with little support as required.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and fairly with staffing issues. Able to analyse problems, reach considered judgements, resolve issues and delegate effectively.
  • a commitment to the happiness well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school.
