Winterbourne Academy is a vibrant and highly successful academy set in a rural location in South Gloucestershire. It is the largest secondary school in the county.

Our aim is to ensure the academic, personal and social development of every student in our care so that they move to the next stage of their lives ready to succeed in whatever path they choose. We refer to this as ‘Empowering all to excel’ and you will see this vision at the heart of everything we do.

The culture and ethos of the Academy has a strong emphasis on providing an excellent learning environment and empowering all to excel.

Our culture is based on five words:

Participation: We encourage everyone to find their voice, grow their mind and build our community, participating in learning and wider opportunities.

Respect: We show respect for everyone in our school, local and wider community through our actions and words. It is shown in what we say, what we do and what we stand for.

Integrity: We do the right thing, even when no one is watching. We lead by example and take responsibility for ourselves and our learning.

Determination: We set ourselves ambition goals and always try our best. We show determination when we face challenges, stay focused and keep going.

Excellence: We challenge ourselves by aiming high, working hard and never giving up. We strive to achieve out personal and academic potential.

We believe that by teaching, modelling and expecting these values explicitly they will become the cornerstone of the Academy’s vision and allow students to flourish.
