About Us

Charnwood Primary School is situated within a mile of Leicester City Centre in the Highfields area. There are approximately 470 pupils on roll between the ages of 3 and 11. The majority of children are of Indian heritage with children of Somali heritage forming the next most significant group of pupils. The majority of children have Islam as their religious faith.

We are proud of our relatively high academic achievements and we are dedicated to achieving even better results.

The substantial Victorian Building houses nine single classrooms and three shared teaching bases on three floors together with a studio hall on the ground floor. There is a larger hall on the first floor which doubles up as a dining room. The school has a library and a recently refurbished multi-media suite.  In September 2009 a new building was opened which included two new classrooms. Two of the playgrounds have also benefited from an extensive refurbishment with new play equipment.

There are:

- eight KS2 classes

- four KS1 classes

- two FS2 classes and

- a part time FS1 class each morning and afternoon.

Language support staff work collaboratively with class teachers.

Parent and pupil feedback about the school is generally very positive; parental engagement is promoted through the parent teacher association. Our School Council provides a platform for children to contribute their ideas and opinions for school improvement. Our dedicated team of outstanding governors support and challenge the school to maximise the potential of each and every child.

We are committed to providing a broad and balanced multi-cultural education for our pupils. We are looking to appoint an individual who shares this ethos and to have a positive approach and commitment to the creation of an enriching, stimulating and challenging educational environment.

School Ethos

At Charnwood we offer an orderly, structured environment to ensure that pupils have access to a quality curriculum. Diversity in ethnic origin, gender, social circumstances, ability, disability or religious background are celebrated. We will develop children’s intellectual, social, cultural, spiritual, moral and emotional potential to the full in a happy, hardworking, caring community that is free from any form of discrimination.
