George Abbot School is a forward thinking academy providing an inclusive education, for around 2,000 young people, aged 11-18. We are located in Burpham, Guildford with good transport links to the surrounding area.

We have a highly skilled and motivated staff team and, as a school, are constantly seeking to refine our teaching practice. This means that our students benefit from an exceptional learning experience. We are part of a network of successful schools and are able to provide Initial Teacher Training and deliver the Early Career Framework programme to early career teachers across Surrey. We prioritise the provision of highest quality continuing professional development for all teaching and support staff.

We are proud of our excellent resources and have great facilities for sport, visual and performing arts, ICT, as well as a range of well equipped science labs and general classrooms. We remain ambitious and continually seek ways to improve the school environment.

Supporting Our Staff

  • Work-life balance is key to the way we lead our school; this means that consultation with staff at all levels is fundamental.
  • Union representatives meet regularly with the headteacher for topical discussions to support work-life balance and staff welfare.
  • Staff benefits at George Abbot include a level one Bupa Healthcare Plan; this offers an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support physical and mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, this provides reduced treatment costs in areas such as dentistry, eye care, physiotherapy and many more.

  • Extra-curricular opportunities for staff - sports teams, yoga, staff choir, organised fitness sessions.
  • A strong team of cover supervisors carry out all the cover for absent staff, with support from the leadership team, allowing teachers guaranteed time to use non-contacts for planning and preparation.

Our school motto ‘non sibi sed toti’ – 'not for oneself but for all' and this sets the tone for the care, honesty and respect which are striking qualities of our school community. 

OUR VALUES

Staff, students, parents and Governors were asked to identify what they believed to be the core values that George Abbot strives to uphold and, following significant discussion, the eight identified below were agreed. These values have been displayed around the school buildings and it is hoped that this will help students gain a deeper understanding of what our values mean, and be inspired to adopt them personally in their day to day activities and relationships in school.
