Overview

Guildford Grove is a primary school for pupils aged between 3 and 11. We will provide your child with an exciting and caring environment in which to learn irrespective of the child’s ability and background. The school is a happy, purposeful place where our children will tell you that learning is at the top of their agenda every school day.

We have designed a creative curriculum which is widely praised and we recruit the best available staff to teach it. As our main focus is on learning, the governors ensure that school resources are fully committed to this central task. In addition our Executive Head, Head of School and their senior team provide excellent leadership which is nationally recognised.

We are committed to the highest standards of behaviour which are clear as one walks around the school. We promote the personal development and social skills of the children and foster high aspirations in the children for their future. We offer the children a full range of trips and visits away from school including residential experience. We have a very wide range of award-winning clubs unequalled in Guildford. The children excel in singing and drama across the school.

About Us

Our Aims At Guildford Grove, our clearly defined aims, and supporting values, have been agreed by representatives from the whole school community. The learning experiences we provide for our pupils in all areas of school life will enable us to make our aims and values a reality. High achievement for each pupil is underpinned by high quality teaching using a range of teaching strategies.

A tour around the school at any one time will show children working as a whole class, individually or in small groups; the method will have been chosen carefully to suit the task in hand, and the abilities of the children. Displays of work and information in the classrooms and around the  school create a stimulating environment. Teachers have high academic expectations of their pupils. Independence and self-reliance is fostered, to develop our pupils’ self esteem and belief in themselves as learners. Teachers ensure the curriculum is presented in interesting ways, which excite and challenge the children.

Our positive approach creates an environment where children feel safe to respond to challenges and take risks in their learning. Our Code of Conduct sets clear parameters for behaviour. All staff have clear and consistent expectations of behaviour of all pupils. Mutual respect and understanding are fostered at all levels in the school community. A pride in our school is promoted at all times and we believe it is critical that our pupils feel they have a voice and are listened to. We promote our pupils’ personal development, social skills and emotional literacy by providing a comprehensive programme of Personal, Social and Health Education, which gives pupils the key skills to enable them to make informed choices.

We believe it is important to develop each pupil’s identity in the local community, the nation and beyond, and we value and embrace diversity. We believe it is critical to plan for the education of the whole child. To do this we provide planned opportunities within the curriculum to enable pupils to develop their own spirituality and sense of self and others. We encourage pupils to take personal responsibility for the choices they make and develop each pupil’s understanding of what is right and wrong. We are determined to raise our pupils’ aspirations for their future by promoting positive attitudes to both work and play and by creating a ‘can do’ culture as an entitlement for all.
