About Us

Ysgol Bae Baglan is a brand new, state of the art, all through 3-16 school situated on the site of Western Avenue Playing Fields in Baglan, Port Talbot. It is the single, biggest capital build project undertaken in the history of Neath Port Talbot Council.

The £40 million facility is jointly funded between NPTCBC and the Welsh Government 21st Century funding scheme. It will be one of the first all through, 3-16 schools in Wales; certainly one where all its pupils are educated under one roof. It will cater for pupils from the age of 3 through to 16 with an expected intake of over 1500 pupils. This includes 300 primary age pupils, 1100 mainstream secondary pupils and 100 places for pupils with specific special needs. Ysgol Bae Baglan amalgamates four successful local schools – Cwrt Sart, Glan Afan and Sandfields Comprehensives and Traethmelyn Primary. It will serve a wide ranging catchment that will include the catchments of Briton Ferry, Baglan, Sandfields, Port Talbot and Aberafan. Ysgol Bae Baglan will have an FSM of around 35% - one of the highest in Wales.

For all indicators in the WIMD the area that is served by Ysgol Bae Baglan is consistently in the lowest third. It supports 8 local feeder schools and will be working with these schools to ensure that all pupils in the cluster receive consistent opportunities and experiences and can fully utilise the sector leading facilities. This cluster – the Bae Baglan Learning Community – serves almost a fifth of the total number of school age pupils in the authority.

There is a rich history across the large cluster of sport, music and drama and the facilities within Ysgol Bae Baglan will ensure, in a time of financial austerity, all members of the community can have access to the very best opportunities. To support the education of the pupils as well as the use of the school as a wider community facility Ysgol Bae Baglan has a large staff to ensure appropriate management of the facility. The school day will commence at 08:30 for middle and upper school and finish at 15:00. A breakfast club will operate from 08:00. Enrichment activities will take place after school and will generally conclude at between 16:00 and 17:00 allowing excellent opportunities for out of school hours’ usage.
