Axe Valley Academy is a school that we as staff are immensely proud of because it is a real community. We are a completely comprehensive school offering high quality educational opportunities to students of all abilities and aptitudes. The progress of each individual student matters to us regardless of their starting points and despite their barriers.
Our beliefs as a school community are straightforward - to have a great school we need a great teacher in every classroom. Teachers are here to teach. Students are here to learn. There is no escaping that a huge part of the purpose of education is to equip children with the examination results that they need to give them as many options as possible. We must be in the business of opening doors for the young people in our care. We demand the highest standards and expect students to engage with their learning no matter what and we don’t apologise for this.
We have a school which staff and students are proud to be a part of and who enjoy working together. We aim to develop well rounded young people equipped to deliver positive change in their school and wider communities. Students need a broad education, one that nurtures specific positive character traits and virtues. We also pride ourselves on our pastoral care. Being a smaller school has some significant advantages and one of those is being able to know every student as an individual; to recognise and nurture their strengths; to teach kindness explicitly and to be as kind as we can.
Axe Valley is looking forward to a future working as part of the outstanding Uffculme Academy Trust and we have ambitions to be an exceptional school in our local community that provides the very best opportunities for the community that we serve.
Mrs Laura Jenkins, Headteacher
Axe Valley Academy currently has approximately 600 students in Years 7-11. The Academy is located in the East Devon area of the country, in the beautiful market town of Axminster, which is set on the River Axe. Axminster is just a few miles inland from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site but has excellent rail links to London and Exeter.
The Academy is an ambitious school where a staff body of dedicated and motivated professionals continue to work hard to support its community. It is a school that we are immensely proud of because it is a real community. We are a completely comprehensive school offering high quality educational opportunities to students of all abilities and aptitudes.
In September 2019, Axe Valley Academy and its neighbouring school, Holyrood academy joined Uffculme Academy Trust to create a MAT of four schools delivering education to more than 3000 children and young people from the ages of 4-19. In September 2020, a fifth school, Neroche Primary will also join the Trust.
Our Trust mission is to enable effective collaboration and partnerships that will support outstanding educational experiences for the pupils attending each of the Trust’s schools.
These are universal and apply to all members of the academy. They are clearly communicated to all members of the community through notices and displays and provide the framework for a values education programme, reward systems and other key areas of the academy.

Uffculme Academy Trust is a multi academy trust (MAT) working across Devon and Somerset. It was born of the partnership between Uffculme Secondary School, an outstanding 11-16 comprehensive, and Uffculme Primary School, which is the nearest and biggest of the secondary school's eight feeder schools.
The history of Uffculme Academy Trust
The founding school of Uffculme Academy Trust (the Trust), Uffculme Secondary School, has been a successful, high performing school with an outstanding Ofsted rating for many years. The school became a Grant Maintained (GM) school in 1993 and transferred to a Foundation school in 1998 when GM schools were abolished. When the opportunity arose for outstanding schools to convert to Academy status in 2010, Uffculme was one of the first schools to do so.
This history of independence from the local authority, whilst maintaining strong collaboration with it, informed the ethos of Uffculme Secondary School, the Academy which it became and, in 2013, the Uffculme Academy Trust which grew from it to include Uffculme Primary School. The Trust's support for Uffculme Primary School enabled substantial school improvement to change from an undersubscribed to an oversubscribed school in less than two years and to achieve impressive KS2 results in 2017.
The MAT is a single organisation which enables collaboration across schools in order to improve and maintain high standards in education. It is responsible for the good governance of schools within the MAT and accountable for the performance of each school.
The MAT's mission is to provide outstanding educational experiences to all the children and young people who are educated within the Trust.
