We have a vacancy for an organised, personable, dedicated and positive HR Officer to join our HR Team. Reporting directly to the School Business Leader, the HR Officer will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and professional Human Resources service to Backwell School.

The HR Officer will be the first point of contact for advice and support on staff wellbeing, recruitment, terms and conditions of employment, salary and payroll procedures. The HR Officer will also manage the Human Resources Team and ensure HR compliance for the School and Trust records.

The nature of the role requires good communication and interpersonal skills; being able to apply discretion to sensitive situations and providing effective solutions is a must. The postholder will have a good standard of Microsoft Office skills, providing effective HR administration. They will need to work effectively as part of a team and equally show initiative to work on their own.

The successful candidate will have CIPD membership with relevant qualification, (CIPD Level 5 is desirable, but not essential for the role). As well as a good general education to A Level, including Numeracy and Literacy equivalent to GCSE grade C/4 and above. Some experience of working in an educational setting would be beneficial, but not essential.

The role is full time (37 hours per week) and we anticipate the hours to be flexible according to the needs of the school. The role is term time only with an additional 15 holiday working days. Exact holiday working days are negotiable but some hours will need to be worked during the summer break in line with the payroll schedule.

Backwell School is located within the semi-rural village of Backwell. As a large comprehensive school we provide secondary and post 16 education for over 1700 students within the local catchment areas. Judged by Ofsted as Good in January 2020, the school has an excellent reputation in the local area and is oversubscribed in regards to student applications.
