The City of Leicester College is a vibrant and popular 11–19 school with a commitment to the highest level of pastoral care and academic achievement. We are a truly comprehensive multi-cultural school offering unique opportunities for all students.

Our ‘motto’ Ambition for All reflects our aim to challenge every member of our community to be the best they can be, in every aspect. This motto is underpinned by our four Character Pillars; Intellectual, Moral, Community and Performance. You can find out more about our Character Pillars on our College Ethos and Values page, but we have found time and again that this program develops academically able students who have the courage to take the opportunities that come their way while being kind to those around them. This success is shown in our examination results and fantastic character of our students.

We have an extremely diverse community and respect, civility and honesty are at the heart of what makes The City of Leicester College such a wonderful place to work and to learn. Students and staff from all backgrounds can come and have their differences respected and their contributions valued. Student success is numerous and varied; from young sports men and women performing at national level, to academic brilliance gaining places at the Oxbridge Universities. Students excel in the arts, which we are passionate about and see as essential to developing the whole person.

We are delighted that you have taken an interest in the school and invite you to visit us to experience the life of the school first hand.

Ethos & Values

Our ethos and values have been developed by staff, students and governors. It underpins all our work and decision making.

COLLEGE VISION

Our vision is to develop an inclusive, dynamic, and high achieving learning community, where every member is ambitious to develop all aspects of their character. We aspire to be ambitious for all members of our community and support each other in achieving their very best. We support this process through the four pillars of our character programme and staff are asked to constantly refer to these in conversations and indeed when dealing with rewarding or sanctioning students. Students have clear expectations when they are in school based around these pillars.

COLLEGE ETHOS

Our vision will be achieved by fostering a supportive, respectful culture of collaboration between students, parents, staff, and the community. Our college community:

  • Celebrates diversity and individual difference
  • Treats others with care and kindness
  • Is safe and nurturing
  • Is a stimulating, inspiring physical environment
  • Is reflective, responsive and embraces change
  • Is enterprising
  • Develops personal, collective, and social responsibility
  • Is inspired by and enjoys the beauty of lifelong learning
  • Aims to develop the character of all of our students through the four pillars

CHARACTER PILLARS

At TCOLC we aim to educate our young people by providing them with a wealth of opportunities that that builds each student’s character. This is through our character education activities that will arm students with the confidence and resilience to flourish in our modern global society.

We use these terms as part of our daily language. Staff will reward all students for demonstrating these characters with character points that will build towards Character Awards and accomplishment of Character Challenges. These Character values underpin everything we do at the school and are seen across all areas of the college.

Community

Our motto 'Ambition for All' reflects our aim to develop young people who will experience contentment, aspire to great acts and play their part in society. Community character is one of the four TCOLC Character Pillars that the school strives to develop in our students. It challenges young people to question their interactions with their local, national and international communities and build the essential lifelong skills for them to flourish in the global modern society.

We would be interested in working more closely with groups, societies and agencies who can genuinely provide additional and different opportunities for our young people.

We are also keen to encourage the community to make use of our wonderful building and site. The school has been designed to make it an attractive venue for private functions, performances and community groups. We have music and drama facilities, large flexible spaces both inside and outside with the ability to zone areas to afford users privacy and security.
