Keevil CofE Academy is located in the picturesque village of Keevil, in the heart of the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. We serve the communities of Keevil, Steeple Ashton, Great Hinton and Bulkington, but our location close to Trowbridge, Westbury, Melksham and many other villages makes us easy to travel to from a wide area. We welcome children from across the area to become part of our community.
We want all our children to grow and flourish during their time with us, achieving both their academic and personal potential. We believe to help children realise all that they are capable of, they need to feel success in something. This could be in reading, swimming, drawing, or working well with others, to name a few. Through finding a child’s individual spark, their self-esteem and confidence grows, which supports their development and accomplishments in all areas. Our task in school is to find the way to help every child succeed.
We are a Church of England school, and our ethos is based on the story of the Good Samaritan, which teaches us to understand how someone reached out and gave all he could to someone to whom he could have turned his back. We are defined by the quote
“Always treat others as you would like to be treated”
MATTHEW 7:12.
This is at the heart of everything we do in school.
We have six Keevil Characteristics which underpin all the learning we do in school. They glue our curriculum together, whether we are doing maths, PE or extra-curricular activities. They are: Resilience, Learning, Teamwork, Problem-Solving, Communication and Diligence. We believe that developing these in our children will help them to be successful with us, and as they move forwards in their lives.
We are a family school in every sense of the word. We ensure that every member of our community feels welcome and belongs. And you as parents, are key members of our family. We work in partnership with you to ensure the best outcomes for all children.
We joined the Acorn Education Trust in July 2016, as a way to build on and embed our success. Through this we have joined a community of schools that work together to ensure the very best for all the children that they serve.
We always love welcoming new children and families into our community, to learn and grow with us.
Lindsey Hermon | Headteacher
We are defined by values of tolerance, courtesy, fairness, and respect for one other. These lead to motivation for service and commitment to society, both within and beyond our school. For this reason we have taken Jesus' summary as our principle of life in Keevil school:
"Always treat others as you would like them to treat you" (Matthew 7:12)
We presume children to achieve their very best. Children will leave this school as the very best Readers, Mathematicians, and Writers that they can be, combined with an understanding of health and fitness in mind and body. This can only happen if a love of learning for learning’s sake is fostered. This happens through great teachers and other school staff who are motivated, challenged and valued.
It is a failure if we are only producing children who are able academically; parents who are the centre of a child’s life, must be supported by the school in helping their child be confident, by providing something, be it a club or a subject, that enables their child to understand and feel success. We will enable children to reflect on their actions, good and bad and understand consequence and the importance of doing good. By going through this process children will also develop self awareness and an understanding of how they can always improve and reach beyond perceived barriers. To achieve this level of self awareness children will develop skills that enable them to excel at behaving and communicating, by both listening and speaking, always, in a spirit of respect for others and themselves. It is vital, always that children are able to turn perceived weakness in to actual strength. All of this will lead to an inner confidence which, more than anything else will enable a child, in their future, to overcome and to flourish.
A child’s future, after the pivotal role of the parent, is defined by the Primary years of Education. We are absolutely clear, at Keevil, how this should be done.

The Acorn Education Trust was formed in August 2014 to create a local solution to a national strategy. Through close collaboration and a shared vision we believe each school will achieve great things while retaining their individual identity. Underpinning this close collaboration is a strong belief in our core purpose.
School improvement is the key to school effectiveness and is at the heart of the process of raising standards. It allows us to deliver an education for all children/students that is of the highest quality. The Acorn Education Trust is driven by its core purpose of improving outcomes and life chances for students and believes that an effective School Improvement Strategy is the key to unlocking the potential in its leaders, staff and children/students. An effective Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) uses the School Improvement Strategy to help ensure accountability, drive strategic thinking and deploy resources in order to improve outcomes for its children/students. Our leadership and management of each school is based on three principles:
Every school is an improving school
Leadership at every level is critical
The unique identity of each school must be preserved
