Assistant Head of Year

We are seeking a committed, student-focused Assistant Head of Year to join our dedicated pastoral team, working term-time plus two weeks. This is a key role providing holistic wellbeing, behaviour and academic support to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

As Assistant Head of Year, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ personal development, wellbeing, behaviour and academic progress. Working closely with the Head of Year, pastoral colleagues and teaching staff, you will proactively identify needs, implement interventions, and champion positive student engagement.

What You Will Do

• Monitor attendance, behaviour and wellbeing data to identify trends and deliver timely interventions.

• Act as a designated safeguarding lead, ensuring that safeguarding practice is robust and effective.

• Maintain accurate records on SIMS, CPOMS and behaviour systems.

• Work collaboratively with SSC Admin to monitor Pupil Missing in Education data and ensure appropriate reporting.

• Support the delivery and monitoring of sanctions, including detentions and restorative processes.

• Provide Reflection Zone support and contribute to a calm, positive school culture.

• Engage professionally with parents and carers, supporting them to help their child succeed.

• Make referrals to external agencies where additional support is required.

• Be highly visible around the school, supporting students and reinforcing expectations.

• Support the operational running of the SSC and wider pastoral team.

What We Are Looking For

• A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

• Experience supporting young people and influencing positive change.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure.

• A proactive team player who can build positive relationships with students, staff and families.

• A sound understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection.

• A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.

We are proud of our successes and the opportunities we provide for our young people and our exciting curriculum offers an extensive range of subjects, where learning does not just happen in the classroom.

This is a great opportunity to join a friendly and supportive employer of choice, who can offer further professional development to any that show potential, willing and want for it.

The Trust strives to be a diverse and inclusive place where all staff have a seat at the table: a seat to be free, a seat to inspire, a seat to challenge and a seat to succeed.

We currently have staff networks for staff who are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer + (LGBTQ+), staff who would describe their background as working class and staff with a disability.
