Sir Jonathan North Girls' College currently have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated practitioner to join the team as an EAL Teaching Assistant, to maximise progress of students who have English as an Additional Language by providing support to them.
The post holder will be required to work Monday to Friday 8.15am - 2.45pm which is 30 hours per week for 39 weeks (term-time plus 5 teacher training days).
The salary is Leicestershire County Grade 5, Points 7-8 Actual Salary £17,471.00 - £17,748.00 approximately (Full Time Equivalent £25,191.00 - £25,590.00).
Main tasks and responsibilities include:
• To provide language and communication support to EAL students in class, small group interventions or 1:1 as directed by the SENCo.
• Support students’ learning of English as an additional language, tailoring support to match the learners needs.
• Deliver literacy intervention programmes, for example: Direct Instruction.
• Liaising with subject teachers/EAL Co-ordinator about what is being learnt and supporting with differentiated resources for EAL learners.
• Participate in the admission of new arrivals, including conducting an initial EAL assessment and sharing information with staff.
• Work with the EAL Co-ordinator to use data to identify EAL learners for targeted support, track and monitor interventions and feedback to staff.
• Establishing positive relationships with EAL students and interacting with them according to their individual learning and emotional needs.
• To take part in regular in-service training and to take responsibility for the ongoing development of your professional skills and knowledge.
• To attend parents’ evenings to support with translation for parents.
• Communicate with Parents/Carers to encourage them to be involved in their child’s learning/progress/making them aware of school ethos/merits/referrals.
• Accompany EAL students on trips and other external activities.
