Education Welfare Officer

The Castle Rock School

Grade 10 – £34,350 FTE / £30,145.50 actual salary

37 hours per week, Term Time Only plus 2 weeks (40 weeks per year)

We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and highly organised Education Welfare Officer to join our committed team. This is a vital role focused on improving student attendance, supporting families, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive in education.

The successful candidate will work closely with school staff, families, and external agencies to address barriers to attendance and engagement. This is a varied and rewarding position that requires strong communication skills, a proactive approach, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Key Responsibilities

Attend regular pastoral meetings to discuss attendance concerns and accept referrals for further investigation.

Liaise with school staff, parents, and pupils to assess individual cases and develop tailored action plans.

Offer advice and support to young people at risk of disengagement from school or home life.

Act as a vital link between school and home, promoting effective communication and resolving difficulties.

Coordinate support from internal and external services to address complex needs.

Maintain accurate case records and manage a caseload with regular supervision and review.

Represent the school in multi-agency meetings and, where necessary, prepare reports and attend court proceedings.

Supervise Education Supervision Orders and contribute to safeguarding procedures.

Deliver parenting courses and participate in planned truancy operations.

Mentor new staff members and engage in ongoing training and professional development.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

Have experience working with children, families, and multi-agency teams in an educational or social care setting.

Be confident in managing sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

Possess excellent organisational, communication, and record-keeping skills.

Be knowledgeable about safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation.

Be proactive, resilient, and committed to improving outcomes for children and young people.
