Markfield is a large village in North-West Leicestershire close to Charnwood Forest and Junction 22 of the M.1. Motorway. The School is situated between the old village and extensive new development. The catchment area for the school includes the whole of Markfield and Field Head as well as farms and settlements in outlying areas.
The school is a modern open-plan building. The first phase was completed in 1972, the second in 1979. A new 4+ Base was completed in 1998 and a new classroom added in 2000. Two further quiet rooms were added last year. We have two double mobile classrooms. We also have a large playing field, natural history area, and outside play apparatus.
Children enter the school the August following their 4th birthday, and stay for six school years before transferring, in the main, to South Charnwood High School.
We try to provide an environment that is rich, colourful and designed to promote enjoyment and excitement in learning. The whole school shares all available resources and employs a variety of teaching styles and strategies. Great emphasis is placed on individual learning programmes to accommodate the full ability and attainment levels within each base. The progress of the children is monitored through careful record keeping.
The school is very proud of the partnership it has developed with parents. They are encouraged to take an active part in children’s learning. There is a thriving P.T.A. which raises funds, organises social events.
A Mercenfeld we endeavour to make our curriculum as creative as possible. Children learn through themes and topics. The theme/topic is then applied to all aspects of the curriculum in a variety of ways including outdoor learning and Computing. We have updated our curriculum in line with the new National Curriculum and we’re excited about the new learning we’ll be offering.
During our OfSTED, the school was described as rapidly improving due to the concerted hard work of the Headteacher and staff. Pupils behave well. They say they are happy in school and feel safe. Attendance is high. The school promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well. This is shown by pupils’ eagerness to learn, good behaviour and respectful attitudes towards each other and adults. We are continually striving to improve the outcomes for our children. Our recent results show that our children are performing significantly above the national average in all areas.
We are part of the Bradgate Education Partnership
It was formed in collaboration with 11 local schools in Leicestershire who applied for MAT status to the Secretary of State for Education as a Multi Academy Trust in September 2016.The Trust currently has 15 schools in total, including two secondary schools.
They are committed to developing the local educational landscape within our primary and secondary schools through our unique autonomous model. They firmly believe that through collaboration and supportive challenge we can continue to support and develop further our academy Head Teachers and our Local Governing Bodies (LGB) to manage their own academies through our unique model.
They are also registered as an academy sponsor for other schools or academies who may approach them and they aim to help them to improve their standards and performance through our supportive model of leadership and school improvement. They fully expect all schools and academies to give their expertise as well as take support from the Trust, as and when required.#
OUR MISSION
To make a positive difference to the lives of our pupils, ensuring they leave school with high outcomes.
OUR PURPOSE
By harnessing the efficiencies and rewards of a connected and effective Multi-Academy Trust but retaining the character and autonomy of individual schools we will support and create high performing collaborative academies who enable their pupils to succeed academically, emotionally and socially.
