Welcome to Oakthorpe Primary School!

We are a small, friendly and caring school situated in the village of Oakthorpe, Swadlincote and part of a multi-academy trust called the Oval Learning Trust. We have around 90 amazing children who are well-behaved, thoughtful and work really hard! Together, all of our dedicated staff team, along with our supportive parents make our school a great place to learn with lots of fun along the way.

We are really lucky to have wonderful grounds with a pond wildlife area, a woodland wildlife area and a huge playing field. Although our postcode is Derbyshire we are actually a Leicestershire school. We have a great ICT suite and interactive whiteboards in all our classrooms. We have a good sized school hall (complete with projector and screen) and all our meals are cooked on the school premises.

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

In July 2018, we were very proud to receive two Gold awards for our work to support the wellbeing of everyone across the school. We were only one of 5 other schools in the country to receive a Gold award from the Carnegie Centre for Mental Health in Schools for all our work to support children's wellbeing.

We also received a gold award from the School Games for all our work to develop sports in the school. This is the first time the school has received this award and we are very proud to partner this up with our other gold award to show how physical and mental health are so important.

PUPIL VOICE
We have a valuable school council who represent Oakthorpe pupil views. The school council make an important contribution to how we run the school and collect opinions from the children about things we do. This includes policies, how we change the school environment, what clubs we run and even our aims and school motto. At Oakthorpe the views of our children really matter and in March 2015 we were regional finalists for the DFE Character Awards!

CLUBS
We have many clubs available to our children throughout the year as we believe in offering a wide range of opportunities to our pupils. For example we run varied sports clubs such as cross country and football, an art club, wildlife club, games club and a homework club. We also offer a Breakfast Club for all pupils from 7:30am and we have excellent links with local after-school childcare.

COME AND HELP US!
We are always looking for new skills and talents in school to help us improve the provision for our children. If you want to help us in any way please get in touch!

If you need any more information about the school, do not hesitate to contact us. You can e-mail the office or telephone our office administrator Lynda Goodwin with any queries.

Kind regards,
Keith Ellis

RISE MULTI-ACADEMY TRUST

Oakthorpe Primary School IS PROUD TO BE PART OF THE RISE MULTI-ACADEMY TRUST.

Rise is a family of schools. We work with and for each other.

We currently comprise of 23 CofE and Community primary schools, Great strides have been made and we are proud of the fact that all our schools are now deemed to be’ Good’ in the eyes of Ofsted. We want, however, for that milestone to be a marker on our journey, rather than the destination itself. Our family of schools are all different shapes and sizes, serving rich and varied communities and that is one of the many things we love about our Trust.

Our vision and our values show how we place great importance on what we do and how we do it. Our values underpin our interactions with each other and strengthen our sense of family. Children are placed at the heart of everything we do. Our team of staff are skilled, hardworking and committed to developing all of your child, not just their academic ability. We recognise that success for every child will be different and we celebrate this.

We are developing and maturing as a Trust. We are ambitious. We are evolving into a Trust that is led by schools for schools. Our headteachers and talented subject leaders play an active role in Trust and school improvement. Our central team are committed to serving schools in a manner that enables them to be great schools, doing great things that enable every child in a Rise school to both ‘flourish and succeed’; and ensuring that our colleagues and communities thrive in a similar way.

Our family of schools are all different shapes and sizes, serving rich and varied communities and that is one of the many things we love about our Trust.
