Welcome

A message from the Headteacher

‘Empowering all to create opportunities for lifelong learners in our communities’

At Parson Street Primary School, we take pride in our unapologetically high standards whereby all children are given the best chances of success, irrespective of background or prior attainment.

We develop children’s identity as part of our community through a sense of belonging and wider responsibility. At the heart of its community, Parson Street is a place where all feel welcome and diversity is both explored and celebrated.

We are committed to creating a culture where learning is valued and all children are given a voice. Through our metacognitive approach of ‘learning to learn’, we ensure that every child leaves Parson Street with the tools needed to thrive, along with the mindset of proud, life-long learners.

We have spent the last year strengthening and refocusing our curriculum so that every child will have access to a broad and balanced curriculum providing them a “level playing field”, and access to all the opportunities they deserve.

We aim to develop the whole child socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The characteristics of effective learning echo the ‘learning gems’ that we promote at Parson Street and they encourage children to build the skills needed to be successful learners.

Following OFSTED’s recommendations about our school, we are doubling down on building each child’s reading and writing skills to enable them to access every other area of the curriculum.

Here is a summary of how we are moving forward.

We are…

Giving children who struggle to read the precise support they need to improve.

Teaching phonics in such a way as to accelerate the children’s progress.

Giving children tools they need to remember what they have been taught.

Teaching individual subjects in more depth.

Helping children to manage their own behaviour whilst at school.

We are also working to help children to manage their interactions with each other more successfully. Our Learning Gems help children to take responsibility for helping themselves and each other in lessons and around the school.
