Why Work for Us?

We are recognised as a warm, caring and vibrant community. We are ambitious for our pupils and work collaboratively with local partners. This is lived out through diverse educational opportunities, a rigorous and coherent curriculum as well as proactive pastoral support.

Staff wellbeing is at the forefront of our practice and is an important part of making our vision a success. Our policies for marking, assessment, and behaviour as well as equality and diversity, strengthen and sustain our commitment to staff wellbeing.

At Selwood we welcome discussions about flexible working in all roles across the school. We value and respect difference and by being open to conversations about flexible arrangements we aim to highlight our inclusive working culture to attract the brightest and best people to join our community. We believe flexible working arrangements can bring various benefits to both parties including a positive impact on productivity, increased motivation and an improved work life balance.

All staff have access to a wealth of CPD opportunities both internally and wider. We value and actively promote quality staff development and welcome the rich opportunities for growth to allow all staff to fulfil their potential. Staff at all stages of their career access a strong supportive appraisal process, which seeks to develop innovative and engaging teaching and support across the school. We run a successful associate leadership programme for those seeking opportunities to move into leadership which is open to all staff.

We are one of the highest performing Middle Schools in the country and remain oversubscribed. Our Latest OFSTED report from June 2022 shares how ‘Pupils are friendly and polite. Pupils know what is expected of them. They enjoy learning about a wide range of subjects. Pupils listen carefully to teachers and respond well to their questions. Pupils conduct themselves well.’ As a school we are very proud of the pupils we have and their attitudes to learning in a disruption free environment.
