About Us

Our aim is simple – we want to be the best school in the country! By this we mean that all our students will receive a better education here than they would at any other establishment. We want children to leave us with: Better qualifications than they would achieve in any other school (regardless of what you pay!!). The skills and attributes needed to live and work in tomorrow's global society.

The values and morals to lead good Christian lives. And so a bit about us… There is definitely a culture of achievement here at SJB but don't get the impression that we are an out of touch, old-fashioned church school. This could not be further from the truth! Visitors always comment about the ethos within the school and how vibrant and motivated our students are.

We were very proud to have been one of the few schools to be awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark. This is our most recent award, others include the Millenium Trophy which was awarded by the LEA to the best school in Surrey, Partnerships with Parents Award and Leading Edge Status. Every Day is Open Day at SJB and visitors are very welcome. James Granville Hamshar - Headteacher

Working for us

We are very fortunate to work with such a brilliant group of students. If you come to visit us, you will see that they are happy, hardworking (on the whole!) and very positive about our school. Achievement is at the forefront of everything we do at SJB and it would be fair to say it is “cool” to achieve. Our staff are enthusiastic and passionate about ensuring our students get the very best deal. An NQT+1 has recently commented “Working at SJB means that you are surrounded by like-minded colleagues: people who want the best for their students and are prepared to go the extra mile to get it. This means that the standards are really high but I’ve found that invigorating rather than daunting; with so many great teachers in the school, I am constantly hearing new ideas and techniques to develop my own practice. That’s not to say that it’s all work and no play though, there’s a strong focus on the importance of work/life balance and the school is aware that tired teachers don’t deliver engaging lessons. The staff room is a chatty and welcoming place to be and most people feel quite at home from day one!”

If you're searching for your next teaching post, why not contact us now? You'll be working at a great school and be part of a friendly, helpful team. We're always interested to hear from enthusiastic, committed teachers - send us your CV now via our School Talent Pool and say what sort of role you're looking for.

By joining our School Talent Pool we'll know you're interested in working here when a future vacancy occurs.

Xavier Catholic Education Trust

St John The Baptist School, is part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust

The aim of the Trust is to provide the children in our care with the best possible education within a caring and supportive Catholic ethos. The Trust has, at the centre of its mission and purpose, the belief that every child has a right to educational excellence through the provision of high quality teaching.

We will support the spiritual, moral, social, cultural and physical development of each child, as well as maximising progress, achievement and attainment to ensure their intellectual growth and fulfil their potential.

Being part of the family of schools and the multi academy trust will bring significant benefits for example:

  • We will work together to train, develop and retain teachers, support staff and leaders;
  • We will have the ability to achieve economies of scale by being part of a larger buying group;
  • There will be opportunities for staff in all our schools to undertake joint training and share their expertise across schools;
  • We will be able to streamline services and provide them centrally and more cost effectively;
  • We will have the flexibility to buy in services from our own chosen providers;
  • We will be able to share resources across all our schools;
  • We will work together closely and support each other to strengthen our Catholic school.
