Overview

Burford Primary and Nursery is a friendly, happy school where children can thrive and succeed. We firmly believe that learning should be exciting as well as challenging, and our pupils are provided with rich and varied learning experiences to allow them to develop to their fullest potential.

We value and respect the contributions made by everyone who learns and works at our school and we believe in working in close partnership with parents and the wider community to enhance the work of our school.

About Us

Burford Primary and Nursery School is a school which prides itself on providing a secure, yet stimulating and challenging environment for children to learn in. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere with a strong emphasis on educating the whole child. It is a school that values academic rigour but also has a tradition of excellence in music and in its sporting achievements. For example, in 2013 84% of our year 6 pupils achieved level 4, or above, in all of reading, writing and maths. This is well above the national average.

Achieving more than the national average in English and Maths is something our Year 6 pupils have achieved in each year of the past three years.

Our achievements in sport are just as impressive. In 2012 our Year 5/6 football team won their local league; our basketball team won the plate final and our Year 4 athletics team won a local indoor competition. In 2010 our basketball team won the Plate Final and City Basketball rally. We came second in the City Athletics competition. In 2009 we won the Top Links Sports Festival and came second in the City Swimming Gala. In 2008 our girls football team won the City League. In terms of music, our children performed with the Halle Orchestra in 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as at the Concert Hall in Nottingham. Many of our children also perform with various bands around the city.

Burford welcomes participation by parents in all aspects of school life, and we look forward to working with you. We have a variety of Adult Education Classes. In 2009 the school achieved the Healthy Schools Award.
