Meet our Education Director

My name is Sandra Appleby and as an Education Director within E-ACT, I provide strategic leadership and support to Ilminster Academy.

Joining the team at Ilminster represents more than just a job; it’s a unique and profoundly rewarding opportunity to contribute to a school and community poised for positive transformation. Located in one of Bristol’s most deprived areas, our academy is resolutely a place of possibility. We are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring every single child receives the exceptional education, care, and opportunities they need and deserve to thrive.

Our core values - Ready, Respectful, Safe - are the bedrock of our community. They guide expectations for our pupils and define the professional behaviours and supportive environment we cultivate amongst our staff team. We believe these values are essential in preparing our pupils for lifelong success. Our collective goal is to nurture confident and resilient young people, equipped with strong academic foundations, assured in their strengths, and prepared for the challenges of a changing world.

If you are passionate about making a tangible difference and believe in the potential of every child, regardless of their starting point, then Ilminster could be the place for you. We are actively seeking talented, dedicated, and resilient individuals to join us. Please do reach out to me if you are interested in finding out more or coming to visit.

Our Ethos and Values

READY

Being Ready is about being in the Green Zone and ready to do your best learning. Try your best when things are hard. Learning from all of our mistakes. It’s ok to try and fail but the main failure is not trying at all. We want Ilminster to be a resilient place to learn where children are ready to take risks in their learning and ask questions to understand themselves and the world they live in.

RESPECTFUL

Is about living life being good people. Being polite, kind and courteous people. Treating everyone the same and accepting we are all different and that that is what makes us brilliantly unique. We want all of the pupils in Ilminster to leave knowing what it means to be a good person and a good member of the community.

SAFE

We encourage our pupils to keep safe at all times throughout the day. Keeping safe allows children to look forward to being in an encouraging environment that promotes social and creative learning.
