About Us

At Shirehampton we pride ourselves on our ‘open door’ policy; fantastic and hardworking staff and governors plus extremely supportive parents.

The school is very well respected within the North Bristol community for its caring, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone involved with Shirehampton Primary is focussed upon high standards and there is a special team spirit committed to developing the whole child by ensuring learning is fun, children feel safe, self-esteem is high and everyone is happy.  We strongly believe in having appropriate challenge for pupils within the core subjects, and pupils are set in Mathematics from Year 1.  The teachers in each phase work closely together in their planning and are very supportive of each other.

We have a rich, creative and experiential curriculum, which makes learning relevant and irresistible for our children and their families particularly when everyone comes together for our ‘Family Challenge’ activities.  Our skills-based learning is designed to equip children with the key skills they will need to be successful in their lives going forward, as well as provide many first-hand experiences and whole school trips.

We recognise working in partnership with parents is crucial to children’s learning experience and we work hard to develop strong home school links and provide support where it is requested; this has been enhanced by our Parent Council.

Our Vision, Values and Aims

LEARN – ASPIRE – ACHIEVE

Our vision is Learn – Aspire – Achieve and is underpinned by seven values which now form the basis of every aspect of life in school from behaviour in classrooms, in the playground and throughout the curriculum. These values apply equally to pupils, teachers, non-teaching staff, Governors and parents/carers.

Pupils achieving their full potential, acquiring new skills, knowledge and understanding in a rewarding and safe environment.

Creativity

A curriculum which creates an enthusiastic learning community and inspires imagination, challenge and risk-taking.

Positive Attitudes

Challenging ourselves with the courage and confidence to develop our learning and taking ownership of what we do.

Perseverance

The self-belief to keep trying and to tackle new challenges in learning and in the wider community.

Respect

Showing consideration for each other in an environment where all can learn and achieve as responsible members of society.

Happiness

A community of learning where everyone is ready to learn and grow because they are valued, emotionally secure and enthusiastic.

Relationships

Strong, positive and respectful links between pupils, parents/carers, staff and the wider community with shared goals.

Aims

  • Every child achieves their full potential in all areas and develops the skills and aspirations needed to be successful life-long learners.
  • Every child makes good progress across the curriculum successfully taking them forward to the next stage of their learning.
  • To equip children with the life skills to become happy and responsible citizens.
