We are committed to delivering the best education for all our pupils, centred around our Rights Respecting ethos and expressive arts curriculum. Our motto ‘Inspire, Learn, Grow’ was suggested by children when asked to sum up what happens at The Sherwood and how they feel about their learning here.
We are a happy school where children enjoy learning and achieving in the context of a rich, vibrant, broad and balanced curriculum. This has also been acknowledged in our recent Ofsted report: "Leaders have put in place a curriculum which includes a wide range of subjects. The approach for all subjects matches the ambition of the national curriculum."
Teachers at The Sherwood use a range of methods and strategies to ensure that all children have the opportunity to learn and to develop as independent thinkers. This includes using the Maths Mastery approach, teaching through a themed curriculum that uses stimulating texts to immerse children in their learning. We aim to develop children’s knowledge, skills and vocabulary through a wide range of strategies, including drama, debate, information research and practical ‘hands-on’ tasks. We also provide a range of additional opportunities to enrich children’s learning, through our links with the wider community.
We believe in encouraging positive working relationships amongst our staff, families and community. The school works closely with Merton Music Foundation who provide music lessons and run a music centre on the school site.
