Gwernyfed has a pleasant, friendly ethos. All members of our community are valued. We offer opportunities to succeed and do well but at the same time to enjoy school. We work as a partnership of pupils, parents and teachers to maximise our pupils' talents.
New pupils are placed in a form group and each group is cared for by a form tutor and a Progress Leader. Our team of Progress Leaders work closely together and are supported by the Senior Leadership Team. They check the progress of pupils and monitor attendance, academic progress and personal development.
Each pupil is also allocated to a house and the house system is used to promote competition and team work in all aspects of school life.
Most pupils are highly motivated and have a very positive attitude to their learning. However, the staff constantly challenge the pupils to succeed. They are relentless in expecting high standards and in believing that pupils can achieve their potential through hard work. We find as a result that regardless of ability, pupils gain in self-belief and achieve their full potential.
