Lawns Park Primary School is a relatively new building which opened in September 1994. The school is situated on the south-west edge of Leeds in a very pleasant area close to Farnley Park and open countryside. Our pupils come from the upper part of the council estate and from the more recent owner-¬occupied developments in Farnley.
Our building is bright, modern and well resourced. Several modifications have been made to the building in recent times to create better facilities, respond to our children’s learning needs and to maximize use of space. We have a Foundation Stage unit and a Magic Garden! Outside we have a tarmac play area, which is down a few steps from a raised patio area. There is a playing field within a perimeter fence and there are attractive planted areas. We have created a school garden which has a pond. The garden is used for Science activities. We have an allotment where we grow vegetables to cook with and sell. We recently created a special food technology area as we are committed to developing fun, purposeful learning which equip our children with the skills and dispositions to be life long learners.
We have a Foundation Stage unit with two 26 place Foundation Stage 1 classes and a Foundation Stage 2 class of 30. Provided that there is a place, children can attend Foundation Stage 1 the term following their third birthday. We house one class per year group from Year 1 to Year 6.
Our “Friends of Lawns Park” are a supportive group of parents who forge links between parents, carers and the school as well as organize fund raising events for the school. We are proud of our links with the wider community.
Lawns Park Primary School has achieved a number of awards including, Investors in Pupils status, The Stephen Lawrence award, Inclusion Charter Mark, International Schools Award and The Healthy Schools Award.
Our current staffing complement is Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and 8 class teachers. There are 21 Teaching Assistants and 4 HLTAs. The school Administrators have an office in the main foyer and our Superintendent has a house in the grounds. Lawns Park is the host for Farnley Children’s Centre and as such the Children’s Centre Co-ordinator, Outreach Workers and Administrative Assistant are based at our host site.
The school is a pleasant place in which to work and learn. There is a lively and productive atmosphere and a supportive and friendly team which includes all staff, all children and our Governors. We offer a breakfast club and a range of extra curricula activities at lunchtime and after school and we participate in many sporting events.
