Welcome

Westwood-guinea-pigs.jpg
Welcome. My name is Hayley Dibnah and I am the Head of School at Westwood Primary. I am proud to lead a caring, inspiring and highly performing school. Westwood is committed to meeting the individual needs of every child and strive to ensure that every child reaches his or her potential. Ofsted agrees that our school is very good with strong leadership and outstanding features.

If your child attends Westwood, you can be sure that your child will receive an excellent education from dedicated and inspirational teachers with the support of highly skilled and experienced teaching assistants. Our curriculum is creative and practical whilst keeping the basic skills of Maths and English at the heart of all learning.

We take a rigorous approach to teaching. The teachers base their teaching on the national curriculum for your child’s year group taking into account the individual needs of the children and strive to ensure that every child makes excellent progress. We have high quality reading schemes both for in school and for reading at home. We have a clearly planned maths calculations policy that children follow as they move through the school. We ensure that children learn basic skills such as spelling and times tables through well planned, systematic programmes.

If your child has any kind of special educational need or disability, you can be assured that we have an exceptional offer of support at our schools. We are truly inclusive and will create a personalised plan for your child to ensure they have every opportunity to access a broad and relevant curriculum and make excellent progress to reach their potential.

All of our subjects are taught in creative and inspiring ways. You child can expect to explore, investigate, analyse, discuss and problem solve in all subjects. Projects in subjects such as science, art, design, PE, ICT, history and geography are always fun and practical with first hand experiences to develop inquisitiveness alongside the development of specific subject knowledge.

You can be sure that your children will enjoy a wonderful learning experience as they take their journey through one of our primary schools.

Our Core Beliefs

Our Motto

"If you believe you can do it you can and you will!"

Our Three Core Values

DREAM

BELIEVE

ACHIEVE

Our aim is to make a positive difference to every child’s life. We will help them to understand the world around them and give them the skills they need to fulfil their dreams and live as confident, successful and caring individuals. Our 3 core values of Dream, Believe and Achieve drive our creative curriculum and underpin all that we do.

Dream: Children at Westwood Primary dare to dream knowing no boundaries. Through the experiences our curriculum offers, our children’s ambitions and aspirations are unlocked. These experiences allow them as individuals to develop their own passions and interests and become invested in their learning leading to a sense of drive and motivation which allows them to reach their potential and achieve their dreams.

Believe: At Westwood children learn to believe in themselves and be proud of their local community. They understand the importance of their actions and the part they play in the diverse wider world. Through a strong self-belief leading to a positive physical and mental well-being our children are equipped to take risks and overcome any challenges they may face. Children will leave Westwood as compassionate individuals with a belief that everyone should be valued and respected therefore preparing them for life in modern Britain.

Achieve: Through our personalised and tailored curriculum, children at Westwood are taught to be responsible, resilient citizens who embrace challenge and feel success. Memorable learning experiences allow our children to retain knowledge, apply skills and develop links in their understanding. In turn, children leave Westwood as independent lifelong learners.
