The Chilterns, a 460 square mile chalk escarpment and wooded area, are officially an area of outstanding natural beauty. As a result, traditional Tudor buildings feature frequently in the local architecture of the beautiful rural towns. Six Hills in Stevenage dates back to Roman times and was featured in the Harry Potter film series.

Despite this rich historical grounding, Hertfordshire is well known for its shopping towns Welwyn Garden City and Watford, as well as quick access to the big City: on a clear day in the southernmost point of Hertfordshire it is possible to see Canary Wharf.
