Welcome to our federation.

In 2019 the CLF celebrated 10 years as a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT). In the course of that time our federation has developed from a small Bristol-based secondary education partnership to an instinctively collaborative ambitious organisation of over 20 entities, serving the educational needs of 11,000 children and young people aged 3 to 19.

Our federation is sponsored by the University of the West of England and Rolls-Royce PLC. Our academies are based in three 3-19 clusters in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

We employ around 1,900 people in a range of roles designed to help children to be successful in their lives. We also rely on the time and commitment of over 200 volunteer governors, who share our values and ambitions for our schools and our pupils. These are expressed in both our core purpose (adjacent) and our mission;

To consistently deliver excellent educational experiences for pupils aged 3-19, improving their life chances and serving the communities of which we are a member.

While we are based in the South West, as a mature MAT we participate in a range of local, regional and national networks that are designed to support the broader development of education sector for the benefit of all children.

In September 2007 John Cabot Academy became the education sponsor for the newly converted Bristol Brunel Academy. The Cabot Learning Federation was then established as a single trust in September 2009 when Bristol Metropolitan Academy joined.

Here at the Cabot Learning Federation (CLF), we like to celebrate. We celebrate exam results, collaboration, achievement, innovations and new ideas; we celebrate the determination of our students; we celebrate the amazing role played by staff; and we celebrate the efforts and successes of our team. We celebrate the small achievements and the big. But far from being self-congratulatory, we are always looking to learn, to improve education and to make a positive difference for students and their families. And that's where you come in.  

At the CLF, we value your experience, skills, expertise and ideas. We expect you to help us to be the very best education provider, and in return we will listen and support you to take your career in whichever direction you choose. With the CLF you can be a leader, find solutions, become an expert, close the gaps and inspire and influence. 

The range of roles and opportunities in the CLF is as diverse as the communities we serve. Or you may simply want to fulfill your defined role to the very best of your abilities. Whatever our individual aspirations, together we make education real every day, in a very individual sense for each student. We learn each day from colleagues, students, families and local communities and we embrace our values and take pride in our work.

Vision

The core purpose of the CLF is at the HEART of all we do. Our vision is simple: we believe that by working together rather than in isolation we can accelerate school improvement and embed excellence in our academies. In doing so, together we can create more opportunities for the lifelong success for our students as they become young adults.

The fundamental mission of the CLF is that its work will bear the hallmarks of excellence in all that it does by 2020. In uncertain times it is through the ubiquitous culture of excellence and the highest standards in all aspects of its work that the CLF will be best placed to respond to the needs of its stakeholders in the period up to 2020 and beyond.

There are elements of the Cabot Learning Federation that make it unique. The combination of the tight geographical concentration of its constituent parts, the diversity of the communities it serves and the range of provision it offers to pupils, staff and governors. It is one of the largest and most mature Multi Academy Trusts (MATs) in the South West, and though it is not one of the larger MATs in the country, it commands a reputation as a leading MAT on the national stage.

For those most closely associated with the CLF, the key binding agent is its deep-rooted moral purpose. The collaborative culture, which is the fundamental agent of accelerated improvement in the CLF, is able to exist because of the shared commitment of all involved in the federation to all of the pupils attending our schools. The federation exists in order to promote their life chances and to deliver excellent educational experiences for those pupils in our academies now and in the future.
