Newsflash! Finally, the time has come. NQTs are now able to complete their induction year overseas… and international schools are eager to employ these recently-trained professionals.
There are more than 4,300 British international schools operating globally, making up over 45% of the international schools’ market. Over the next ten years, the British international schools’ sector will require up to 230,000 more teachers to meet the demand. (COBIS report, 2018)
Eteach, the UK’s leading education job site and ESP, NQT induction providers have teamed up to offer a complete service to match NQTs to their ideal school and deliver the NQT induction at UK standards, anywhere in the world.
Eteach has been leading the way in international teacher job matching for 18 years. Whether you want to work in your home country or venture further for your dream role, Eteach can you help you. We have dedicated consultants across the UK and abroad who will support you on your new journey.
Danielle Clayfield, NQT Community Manager at Eteach, explains how it works.
What is your main role?
My job is to support you, the NQT.
I attend NQT Career fairs at Universities across the UK and deliver conferences directly to BEd or PGCE students to inform them of their options, both locally and globally.
I will set up your account on our website eteach.com. These accounts can be managed by you but obviously you are not obliged to access our support.
Should an NQT wish to use the free support on offer, we complete a pre-screen call with the individual candidate so they can tell me where they want to teach, what they would be capable of teaching and their interests. I then enter these candidates into the specific location talent pools, these are managed myself and the specialist location consultants, we can then get to work matching the NQT with employment opportunities that suit their needs.
Eteach has international and UK consultants who work directly with schools locally and globally. The relationship with the schools allows us to connect our NQTs and schools based on the interest and talent of the NQT and the needs of the school. It is in everybody’s best interests to get a good match, and myself and Eteach colleagues work hard to facilitate that.
Being a part of the NQT Eteach community allows for myself and the Eteach team of local and international consultants to support NQT’s in writing their CV, attending interviews and ultimately securing their first job role.
From conversations with hundreds of NQT’s I have found that many of them tend to think they do not have a great deal to say to an employer because they are at the start of their career. However, chatting to me often identifies life experiences that are imperative to highlighting skills and hobbies developed over time. These are necessary when managing a classroom and often so inspiring to feed the next generations’ passion for learning and ambition for life.
It is also important to mention that people’s interests and circumstances change over time and our NQTs should know that they can update their accounts themselves, and/or contact me to change their information within the talent pool at any time.
How does the matching service work?
Eteach has an ongoing dialogue with schools within both the UK and internationally. Schools will identify what they need - this could be a Primary Teacher or a Secondary History, English or Maths teacher for instance. I’ll receive that brief and identify NQTs from our talent pools who match the brief and have expressed an interest in teaching in the relevant location.
If the employment opportunity is for an international school, then the initial interview with the school is often conducted via Skype. Candidates are advised to dress and present themselves as they would for a face to face interview.
What are the benefits of joining our talent pool?
- We are a global company. We work with over 7500 schools and colleges globally who ask for us to undertake the complete recruitment process for them. So, we will search our database and contact you directly for opportunities that match your criteria which means we will do the work for you whilst you concentrate on your current role.
- 65,000 + education vacancies are placed on our website every year directly by schools - you are able to search jobs globally and apply within seconds which saves you time looking for your dream role.
- You have access to online CPD free of charge. Our marketing team work tirelessly to produce aids for our NQT’s; they often blog about CV writing, classroom advice and interview tips amongst a variety of other topics.
- It saves NQT’s time looking for the job that they want, in the location that they desire.
- It allows for us to support NQT’s practically, not only with the paperwork; CV’s and applications, but also with ideas for dialogue in interview.
- The consultants and I also consider the candidates skills and interests when matching them to what the school is looking for.
- Being in the talent pool allows for our NQTs to devote their time to completing their placements and dissertations, safe in knowing that Eteach is working for them on the job search front.
- Schools save time and money by not having to set off on a big recruitment campaign – they come directly to Eteach, knowing they have talent pools of NQT’s who have already expressed interest in working in the specific locations.
NQTs are at the beginning of their professional career. What help do they get to develop professionally?
We are in partnership with ESP Education who work with the school to ensure that the first academic year, an induction year, will include support for professional development and an NQT mentor. That support could cover pedagogy, classroom management and several things that are bread and butter issues for any teacher.
These schools are accredited schools under the British Schools Overseas framework. This framework places some obligations on schools and independent inspections are done to maintain standards, standards for staff as well as standards for pupils.
Between January 2012 and January 2018, the international schools sector grew by over 6% per annum, with the number of new schools increasing by over 450 each year.
About Eteach
Eteach was set up by a teacher who had an idea that recruitment and retention could be done better. That teacher, Paul Howells, is still at the helm, so our core values are consistent.
We believe that by delivering this high-quality induction process for schools, we free up the school leaders to focus instead on their core purpose: the teaching and learning. If our candidates are satisfied and successful in their careers, we know we have contributed in the classroom, and will hopefully continue the relationship into the future.
