Sue-1.jpg

We are a Community primary school situated by the river Thames, in southwest London.

We hope that you will find our website informative and helpful. Whether you are a prospective parent, somebody who might be interested in working at our school, or are already part of our school community, we hope that there is something here for you.

We are confident that you will see that Barnes Primary is a vibrant, dynamic, thriving and happy place. We are proud of our children, our staff and the provision we offer. If you don’t already know us and would like to visit, please telephone Lucy Blair in the Key Stage 1 school office to make an appointment.

Aims and Values

Barnes Primary School is a community of learners where everyone can be successful and strive to continually improve on their personal best.

The school will try to:

• Treat all children fairly, care for them and ensure their safety
• Ensure that all children are well taught so they achieve the best possible academic results
• Help all children to develop a sense of personal responsibility and an awareness of the importance of being considerate and caring towards other
• Provide an educational service that meets the individual needs of all children within the school community
• Keep parents regularly informed about their child’s progress and about all aspects of school life
• Be welcoming at all times and offer parents the opportunity to become involved in the daily life of the school
• Promote physical fitness and an awareness of the importance of personal hygiene, exercise and diet
• Develop in each child an understanding, appreciation and respect for different religions, beliefs and moral values. Through the development of tolerance and mutual understanding we seek to prepare children for living in a multi-cultural society
• Provide children with a broad and varied educational experience which incorporates the National Curriculum and fully embraces physical education, the arts and music
• Look for opportunities to instil within children the core values that underpin our school curriculum, ‘maximising learning, love and laughter’ through development of eight personal qualities: creativity, curiosity, empathy, integrity, positivity, self-belief, resilience and responsibility.

Values

Our values are an integral part of our school culture. Twice a term we take one value as the topic of a special assembly. Our Wellbeing champions make a short film illustrating the value in their own words. Then children are asked to nominate both children and adults who, in their opinion, demonstrate that value in school. Nominations go onto a board in the lunch hall. The Wellbeing Champions will choose some winners who will then receive a special sticker! We hope that this approach allows our children to think deeply about each value and embed it into their own behaviour which then contributes to the culture of the school as a whole.

Why work at Barnes Primary School?

• Learning, love and laughter is embedded in all that we do
• Staff are highly valued. We care about one another and have a wonderful team spirit. Staff are proud to work at Barnes Primary School
• There is a clear vision and relentless ambition. We expect more. We will encourage you to try new ways and push boundaries
• We grow staff and have excellent continued professional development. This is one reason our staff turnover is so low
• We have leaders who work across other schools and are committed to developing others
• We are outward facing. We belong to a locality of Richmond schools, Achieving for children, the West London Teaching Alliance and have maths specialist leads working as part of the West London Maths Hub supporting seven other schools as well as linking closely with Rusuzumiro School in Rwanda
